8500ci Plus

Will the 8500ci Plus still work without a GPS antenna? basically I just want to use it to detect radar and laser. I'm not really concerned about false detections or red light cameras.

I do not recommend it. The system will be constantly looking for a GPS signal which can tie up resources and cause sluggish system performance. The system was designed to use with a GPS antenna connected and with a GPS signal present.

I drive 80 to 185 miles a day, I don't want gps dont care about cameras, or being connected, running my log 8500/x50 with everything off except Ka band, country, city, interstate, if I hear one beeping, it's a sheriff deputy oncoming or off on side road, 9 × years never a ticket, have 1 question, notice Louisiana state police radar if parked is fast so it requires immediate stand on brake, but no trash, ad x,k, pop off, why do I need a new escort, when mine never goes off unless it's a cop, not xi model or black, grey And superior, as slightest beeping, and over 2 hills, a sheriff deputy! Please tell me why I need to update, ? Thank you, Lloyd

This is the 8500ci section of the forum, it appears you are referring to a dash mount 8500x50 model. More people will see your question if you post in the correct section by starting a NEW THREAD instead of high jacking this one.

That said if you mostly face KA radar and you are happy then keep running it if it's still working good. Newer models have GPS based filtering as well as the new IVT filtering for K band. New cars now have lane assist, collision avoidance systems, and adaptive cruise control that operate on police K band frequencies. If you have K band turned on you should get overwhelmed with false K band alerts. Newer detectors filter most of these out. Some Escort models now also have directional arrows built in to tell you where the threat is.
Your 8500 model detector is kinda like running Windows 98 or using a Motorola flip phone. Yes they all still function ................but.
