Bluetooth question

I just got a new X70 from amazon, as a replacement for my long serving 8500X50 which finally gave up on me after 13 years. Just want to make sure I understand the bluetooth issue correctly ... though there is a bluetooth icon shown on the X70's display, I don't really get bluetooth connectivity unless I purchase the smart cord live also. Is that correct?

Mostly this unit will be used on 2 wheels. I try to keep the added accessories to a minimum anyway.

Correct. The bluetooth icon that you see is grey. When you connect a SmartCord Live to it, and pair it to your phone, then this icon will turn blue. When you start the Escort Live app then it will change to display the speed limit for the road you are on (as long as you are logged into the account you created when you registered the SmartCord Live cord).

So a total Newbie follow up question then:

Since we have no Bluetooth support without the cord, do we have the ability to use the Detector Tools and hardwire to change settings with a computer, rather than the buttons on the detector?

It seems the timeout on the button menu is so fast, that it will back out of the settings menu, before I can refer to my settings I have written down that I want to change.

For now, the detector tools does not recognize my X70. I am working on that. Some have said there is no firmware update for the X70, so it won't connect for now. Honestly, if I can't change any settings on the unit, I have no need to chase down that road any further. I just want to change my settings more easily, than the buttons on the detector.

Detector Tools (not Pro) should recognize your X70 however there are no firmware updates available for it.

You cannot change detector settings on X70 through Detector Tools. This is true on all of our detectors now.

A better upgrade would be to an Escort model that has their IVT filtering. Neither the 8500 models or the X70 have this. K band filtering is a must have in todays world.
