Default BlueTooth/Wi-Fi/Hotspot Questions

So I have a Max 360 and am familiar with the BlueTooth setup to use EL, and plan on upgrading to the Redline 360c.

Does the "connected" detectors like the Redline 360c while not only allowing for firmware and database updates via wi-fi rather than a USB cord connected to a PC, also can get the benefits of EL without using your phone if you have an automobile with a hotspot?

What I'm wondering is, since running EL on my phone pretty much means I need to leave it charging as it seems to run the battery down considerably (I'm assuming because of 'location' having to be used), does this give me a better option for not running my battery down so fast.

Though I don't have a hotspot in my car, using a hotspot on my phone might be a better option since I have an unlimited data plan (which of course I know at least with AT&T is not truly unlimited!). Or would the phone have to run EL either way so I probably wouldn't notice a difference?

Also, different but related subject, if the above doesn't buy me much, I'd at least like to have the detector connect to my home wifi for updates before I leave the house. I guess that's an either/or situation though as it can't be looking for my router at the same time as a phone hotspot.

Just trying to gain some knowledge before I trade out my Max for the Redline.

Thanks!

You will still need a phone in order to use EL. Many have an old phone they use specifically for EL and have it on a charging cable all of the time due to the battery drain.

The "connected" means that you will receive over the air updates that you can conveniently use while sitting in your car connected to WiFi as opposed to bringing it inside and connecting it to a laptop or PC.

My I phone#8 while using Escort Live held a charge very well. You can always plug your phone in to a charging cable in you car while using Escort Live.
