Default Just upgraded from max 360 and have a question

Hi,

I had my max 360 (no c) for 5.5 years and just upgraded to the redline 360c. I got it today and I'm heading on a road trip this afternoon from the NYC area to the MA/VA/DC area, so I'm excited to test it out.

I have a question though about the band settings. On my old max 360, I used to run with Ka, K, and X on; TSR off; and I can't remember what I did with pop, but I think I kept it on.

The redline now offers much more precise band segmentation and I'm not sure what to choose. I followed the suggestions of VortexRadar and turned off pop, ka, and k, so that I can run the specific ka and k narrow bands. Based on VortexRadar, I turned on k narrow 1/2/3/4 and ka narrow 2/4/5/6/8.

I don't doubt his expertise at all, but I'd like to understand why it's suggested to run with pop off, and to turn off ka/k in favor of those segmentations. The explanation in VortexRadars setup video was that turning on pop and full ka/k will negatively impact performance, but I'm curious as to why?

I'd rather have a few extra falses if it means I'm better protected. For reference, I live in NYC, work in Westchester, and frequently travel to the surrounding states.

Thanks!

The radar detector was awesome! Very quiet on k, a little order on x, but I also did drive through Jersey, and ka was also quiet. Multi was loud but as I'm based in NYC, I want it turned on.

Well worth the purchase. I did miss the arrows on x band through

I am down near Atlantic City I had set up my RL360c similar to Vortex video prior to the release of the video. Your performance is impacted by the scanning time. In other words the more spectrum scanned the longer it takes. There is no POP in our area and the Ka bands recommended cover you for the NJSTP, the factory settings would leave you vulnerable. Ka segment 10 should be turned off it is not used by any known agency in the area but is used by vehicles that have radar cruise control and will give you false alerts.

Basically, the idea is to not make the detector work at looking for things that don't exist or matter it should concentrate on looking for known bogies.

Good Luck & Enjoy!

That makes sense. I also realized that MA uses multi radar which is why it was going off a lot.

I feel much better about the detector now with the settings I've configured based on recommendations

Avnyc11 - how do you like the Redline 360c? - much better range than your previous Max 360? - long time Escort RD customer - current model is Max 360c.

I've had the original Max360(#79), M360c and now am running R360c. I would say range is better with R360c vs M360c but response, arrows and falsing has been a little more with the R vs the M. The R has gotten better with firmware improvements and Escort continues to work on refinements.
The M is a great RD, but if range, stealth are important to you, then the R would be a worthwhile upgrade. I would also expect Escort to focus more on firmware support as it is the newest.
The one caveat I would have is the R's wifi/bluetooth chipset is old and only works on 2.4g wifi. You can look through the forum to see all the complaining about this issue. I would think that Escort will likely come out with a R360c with a new chipset, but unlikely for some time. But if wifi does not matter to you or your car is 2.4g, then no issues

I will echo what mtime said.

I've noticed longer range, but so far only in the sense that I'm picking up signals from cops on neighboring roads and not mine; and I do appreciate the stealth aspect as I'm driving to VA next weekend.

I am getting more falses at the moment but only because the detector needs to relearn my locations. Lockouts can't be transferred, so if losing the locations the detector auto learned, or you manually locked out, will be an issue, then don't upgrade. I see it though as a way to reconfirm those locations still need to be locked out.

I live in NY, so I turned on multi radar (which I don't think was offered on the max 360, and not sure about max 360c) but it went off way too much so I ended up turning it off (see my other threads on this).

If you live in NJ then you might appreciate having dual X band antennas which the Max 360 has, not sure about the max 360c, but the redline 360c doesn't have. I travel to Jersey a lot so I'll miss that feature. All it means though is you lose arrow functionality on X band.

WiFi updates are a nice feature. My car isn't connected, but I can get WiFi signal in my garage, so it's easy to update.

Do I think it's worth buying the redline 360c, I think it depends. If money is no object then yes, get the best. If you want stealth and/or better range, then yes. If x band is important to you, then you need to decide how important arrows are for the band; if they are then keep the max 360c (assuming it has dual x band antennas like the max 360). If multi radar is important to you, then upgrade (assuming the max 360c doesn't have it like the max 360 doesn't).

The only reason I upgraded was because I sold my max 360. I had it for 5.5 years, so I didn't mind getting a new one, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I probably should have kept it and kept the extra money I spent on the redline 360c lol; but I will say, the best feature of the redline 360c is the magnetic sticky mount! I take my detector off every time I park in direct sun so as to stop it from falling off my windshield, which my max 360 did consistently (and the redline is slightly heavier than that); and the magnetic mount makes it a breeze!
