Default Escort Live Direct Wire Firmware Update

I received a 9500ix for Christmas and just bought and installed an iphone SmartCord direct wire. Prior to installing the SmartCord I updated the firmware on my 9500ix using detector tools on my Mac. I hooked everything up, downloaded the app and it seems to be working.

I have a question though about the SmartCord module. When I plug the SmartCord module into my Mac via USB, Detector Tools finds the module and detects that its firmware is 1.1.1. If I click Check Device for Qualifying Firmware then Detector Tools acts as if there is a new firmware for my module. It gives messages that it is erasing firmware and attempting to update the firmware but it always fails. Is there a newer firmware and should it be updating? If so why is it failing?

There is newer firmware available for the SmartCord Live cords but it is only to support certain Beltronics brand detectors. Because you are using a 9500ix it does not effect you.

I will pass along to our Detector Tools developers that your SmartCord Live direct wire isn't properly updating. I will contact you if they believe that there could be an issue with your direct wire.

Thank you for letting us know about this.

Are you using the same USB cable that you used with your 9500ix? It is working for us.

Yes I am using the same cord. Maybe it is because I am using my Mac. I will try the update on a PC and post back if that works.

One thing you should be aware of...I am getting conflicting responses from Escort. I used the Escort customer service chat earlier today. I asked the person on the chat (Shawn) my question. I actually cut and paste my exact question that started this thread. He told me that there is not a newer firmware for an iPhone direct wire and that was the reason it was saying failed. From your response it appears that there is a newer firmware but it doesn't affect my 9500ix.

It seemed to work on the PC. Maybe it is an issue with Detector Tools on the Mac

Maybe it is a virus/firewall setting or software on your Mac causing it? It works for us on Mac Detector Tools. The Escort Live cord uses a different form of communication (serial) than the 9500ix does when it updates. Notice on Windows8 that special drivers are required for the cord (see the products effected list here) but not for the 9500ix

Thank you for the information, I will send our phone reps a reminder that there is a Escort Live cord update available. It is for all versions of cords. Again this Escort Live cord update is only to support certain Beltronics detectors with Escort Live. It will not effect you.

I haven't used my smart cord at all since I got it. Now seeing there is an update do I just hook up the USB cord that I use on my 9500ix to update and open detector tools and it will update my escort live smart cord?

Yep, and click the "update software" button.

It isn't going to solve any issues that you are having unless you are using a Beltronics V6, V8, or Pro300 detector. It's only to support these detectors with Escort Live.

I ran into the same error on my Mac with the standard Live cord for iPhone... so I switched to my windows side of my macbook, and it worked flawelessly. Same USB cord and all. So there might be a bug with the mac version.
