Default No detector connected? :(

I purchased my 9500ix detector yesterday. When I start Detector Tools (DT) is says “no detector connected?” Here is what I did and what I observed.

My computer info is:
-Microsoft windows 7 Home Premium
-Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
-Net Framework 4 Version 4.0.30319

-Downloaded and installed Detector tools. When prompted to select detector type, I closed the window (as install directions dictate) since my model (9500ix) was not listed. Installation complete message was displayed.
-Plugged in USB that is connected to the ix.
-USB is visible on ix screen
-Saw “installing device drivers” and “your device is ready to use”
-Started DT and after it searched for detector it displayed ‘No detector found”

-Plugged ix into a different USB port
-USB visible on ix screen
-Saw “installing device drivers” and “your device is ready to use”
-Started DT and after it searched for detector it displayed ‘No detector found”

-Started searching the forums and when I looked at DT again 5 minutes later, it showed a connection to serial # (my ix).
-I successfully updated software and the Defender database

I though all was good, but out of curiosity, I disconnected the ix and tried to reconnect it (to the port that eventually worked) and I get the “no detector found” again. Although it connected once somehow, it will not connect again, so I tried:

-Fixing the install of DT which resulted in “no detector found.”
-Uninstalled DT and reinstalled it which also resulted in “no detector found” message.

The detector is in fact connected. I see ‘USB’ displayed on the ix screen and if I look at ‘devices and printers’ I see in the category of ‘unspecified’ “Passport 9500ix” is listed.

This is so frustration. So what is the issue of it not connecting properly?

Could be a virus software conflicting with Detector Tools. Try disabling it if one is installed.

It's probably not a detector related issue. If you see USB on the detector's screen then the USB port of your detector is functioning. If you installed updates once, and they performed quickly (maybe two minutes), then your USB cable is probably alright too.

I would try calling one of our service reps when you are in front of the computer with your 9500ix. They can walk through and diagnose it with you. Their number is in my siganture below.

i tried to disable smart firewall and norton 360. Thad didn't work wither. I also contacted escort techs. They said the problem is not with the detector or detector tools, since my computer is showing a connection to the ix. Problem seems to be the internet connection. Something I hadn’t seen in the forums anywhere before. They said a weak Wi-Fi signal or the ISP could be preventing DT from getting a good connection. My Wi-Fi signal strength is maxed out, but I bought a CAT 6 LAN cable anyway and tried that. Still no joy. Guess I will have to wait until I go home and try a different server or find Wi-Fi somewhere else and try there. Nothing else has worked so far.

Most interesting. I, in fact, never got a connection until I installed the drivers for the IQ. Ever since then I have never had a problem connecting my ix. You could try that.

I just got lucky. I FIXED IT!!!!!! This is weird. My account is the only account on this computer and thus is an administrator account. On a whim, I decided to run the program as an administrator instead of just double clicking the desktop icon. NOW IT WORKS EVERY TIME (4 times in a row). Who new…..?
So, those of you who have issues of “no detector found” try to run it as an administrator!!
