Default Escort "8500ci plus" for Europe ?

Hello everyone,

1st, i'm French. So excuse me for my poor English, i'll try to do my best !
I have many questions, so don't lose your courage...

Let me give you all "problems" we have here in France:
1) Radar detector are strictly forbidden!

2) Even police are not allowed to enter in our vehicle, they can inspect it until they found something "curious" on it (as laser shifters under bumper for example !). Also, they make a lot of radar controls while cruising in "usual cars" (not marked as police) too. So they can easily see your windshield detector in traffic. Then, big problems start for you...

3) Only K band (24.125Ghz) and laser guns are used here.

4) Police use low powered radar. So we must have the most sensitive radar detector installed if we want it to be fully functional and no give us a 50 ft distance alert (like my old 975R) !

5) French policemen doesn't have any sense of humor... So if they see "jammed" on there laser guns, you can be sure to sleep in jail next night !

6) It seems "9500ci" is better sensitive than "the 8500ci". Can you confirm this ?

I'd read some posts and feedbacks on this forum (in some other places too) and my conclusion could be:

- Concealed detector is the most discrete. I've no problem to install it. I just have to find the best place and the best way for main antenna installation.

- I found in European official dealers "9500ci plus euro" & "8500ci plus euro" ("plus" mean with GPS module). But i didn't found them on the "escortradar" official site. Does "9500ci" & "8500ci" really have an "euro" version ?

- With "8500ci", we can reject all band except K2 Band (24.110 24.174) to eliminate most of false alert here. Not with "9500ci". Can you confirm this ?

- So could the best RD for France be the "8500Ci plus euro" ?
But official West Europe dealer (http://www.escortradareurope.com) just have "Qi45" and "9500ci plus" models not "8500ci plus" !!!
http://euescortradar.com (East Europe dealer) have it but don't want to sell it to me... Any solution for this ?

- Does 8500ci (and 9500ci) laser shifters "jam" laser gun beam or just cancel the measure ?

- Is Database for speed camera works for France ?

- I've seen "R27 euro" model too. But i don't think it could fits for us. What do you think about it ?

- I have a "candid" question: What's the difference between "9500ci plus" and "Stir plus" from Bel (it's easier to find it here) ?

That's all guys. Thanks for all you can learn to me...

I think that I am courageous enough to tackle this

First, Escort Inc sell detectors under the Beltronics brand name too.

The Passport 9500ci and Beltronics STi-R Plus are nearly the same in performance and features. The main differences are that the laser shifters are optional on the STi-R Plus and the STi-R Plus has Ka band segmenting (International version also has K band segmenting) and RDR toggle, Radar Detector Rejection. These features (look at them all!) give the STi-R Plus a boost in alert reaction time over the 9500ci. They both use the same camera database and have the same GPS features. The STi-R Plus also has a radar deactivation mode to completely deactivate the detector portion of the system in case your vehicle is searched.

I highly recommend the STi-R Plus Intl over the 8500ci Plus. The STi-R Plus (and 9500ci) uses our patented M3 antenna which is undetectable to police radar detector detectors. The 8500ci Plus uses our M4 antenna that is detectable and it doesn't offer the extreme detection range of the M3.

Hello,

Thanks for all these nice informations !

K band segmenting is a really good news, radar deactivation is great feature too !

I must admit, i never taught to Bel's product because in Bel's original web site or Bel's European Official Dealer (http://www.target-automotive.nl) only US (or North America) version of the manual of STi-R Plus can be downloaded.
And no K band segmenting or radar deactivation are described...
I don't know how these modes can be used.
Do you know where i could download it ?

I understood Laser shifters are optional with STi-R Plus. But can main antenna just receive (and no block) laser beam ?

I just have to find a "STi-R Plus international" with an official dealer and a really good price now !

Thanks once again for your answers...

The STi-R+ International unit is exactly the same as the North American unit for user's features and controls. So use the STi-R+ NA manual from Target. The STi-R+ will receive LASER alerts but not block laser without the optional blocker units.

Hi insidercw3 !

I'm agree with you. Most features and controls are the same between "StiR plus NA" and international model.

But i downloaded "StiR plus" and "StiR plus NA" manuals and i didn't seen anywhere how to deactivate radar detection in few seconds or how to segment K band (i don't care about Ka band !) like in International model...
Some more ideas about this ?

Ok (and thanks) for laser reception but no blocking...

See the first page of the STi-R Plus's manual for deactivation info:

Quote:
The radar feature can also be deactivated
at any time by simply pressing the VOL
and SENS buttons for (5) five seconds. To
re-activate, simply use the detector tools
again.
K band segmenting is only available on the STi-R Plus International model.

Here is a list of our international distributors

I would have preffered to buy 9500ci or STI-R INTL for Europe if these radar detectors would have the same K band range as 8500ci Plus. But I suppose it is not possible because they have antenna type M3 instead M4 as 8500ci has. Am I right?

8500ci Plus Intl K-band STD: 23.950 - 24.250
9500ci and STR-R INTL K-band STD: 24.050 - 24.250

We have updated our M3 equipped detectors (9500ci, STiR Plus Intl) for extended K band down to 23.950 GHz.
