Default no Radar Detector in Live App

I have just received a new Passport 9500ix. Trying to connect via BT. I loaded Live App and connected to detecor via PC and ran thru updates. Tried to pair BT. Finally connected with BT. Escort Live App shows Live connected but BT icon is yellow and says No Radar Detector.

I am using an IPOD OS 11. The Live App wants me to Register but I already registered on my PC. Entering same username/Password gives msg already used.
Can not get Live App to show my detector.
What am I missing?

Never mind - I think.
I shut everything off and waited a while. Went back out and it now connected. I have yet to drive using it but seems to at least connect and detector is now listed.

Maybe I dont know how Escort Live works, so can someone please help me understand.

When I try and connect with BT it finally detects my Escort IX. But when I try and log into Live, I get no internet message. So my question is, do I have to have an always connected wifi or a data plan with a Iphone?

I have an Ipod and no smartphone or any data packages. So is this Live app useless to me?

If you have to have a data plan, doesnt this eat up the data time? Again, I have no experience with smartphone usage and data plans. I never read anywhere where you had to have this to use. I thought the connection was thru Escort Live cord or the detector.

Escort Live is a phone app, it requires a smartphone and a data plan.

Defender database, for Escort detectors with GPS capability, updated weekly with Detector Tools, is a camera/warning database that doesn't require a smartphone and doesn't require an internet connection to provide alerts. You do need use a computer with an internet connection to update the Defender camera database. A 90 day Defender database subscription is included with detector purchase. After the first 90 days you need to purchase a Defender database subscription.

Thanks for the information. I did not know Live required a data plan. That, for now makes it usless to me or am I still confused?

Is the Defender database tied to the 9500IX and has nothing to the Live app? I thought the Live app was gong to display this info.

The Live app, which requires an Internet connection to provide data, is useful for those with an iPhone or Android phone. Live includes the Defender database plus other features. A smartphone with a data connection is required to use Live.

Defender database is loaded directly on the detector using Detector Tools. Defender doesn't require a smartphone with a data connection.

If you have no smart phone with Data then you will not be able to use Escort Live. Since you will be running your 9500ix as a stand alone detector you will want to update the defender data base onto your detector by a computer and data cable. This network is GPS based so when you get close to a redlight camera you will get a notification. Escort Live and Defender are two separate things. (note: if you do run Escort live via Bluetooth and a smart phone it will check and update the defender data base as a feature)

On a side note, the 9500ix is an older unit that has no modern K band filtering for new vehicle safety systems. This means you will get a ton of false K band alerts from new cars next to you on the road. These blind spot and lane assist systems on newer cars operate on the same K band frequency as actual Police K band radar. You might consider a newer detector like the Redline EX or Max 360c. The name of the filtering system for Escort is called IVT filtering.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies. This helps me alot.
I have used a laptop to update the detector in my car. I was hoping the Defender alerts would show up on the Live app (with no internet or data plan).

1) When I (my particular situation) use Live app I get absolutely no information - correct?

2) I did press the play button (seems the only thing that does somethibg). What music plays?

3)Does using data plan use up a lot of data usage?

Defender alerts are also in the Live app, but they come directly from us, not from your detector. To limit data usage, Escort Live only displays camera locations and alerts in a 25 mile radius around your current location.

If your device does not have an internet connection then you will not be able to use Escort Live at all. An internet connection is required to login to the app.

You will need to allow Escort Live to access your music library. You should have been asked this when you first ran Escort Live.

Data usage varies depending on how much you use Escort Live and how many alerts are in your area. It is not that much though.
