Default ZW5, ZR5 and ShifterMax

What are the differences between ZW5, ZR5 and ShifterMax. Any webpages that offer a comparison?

ZR5 & ZW5 are similar in all respects with the exception of the ZR5 being direct wired and has an individual component attached to the interior for power, volume and mute. It's an individual unit and can be run with or without a detector. The ZW5, on the other hand, is wireless (hence the "W") and is connected and controlled via your Max 360 or Max 360c detector. You NEED a detector in order to run the ZW5.

The Shiftermax I believe is just adding two more heads for rear detection which can be done on both the ZR5 & ZW5.

Great explanation amolinaro, thanks!

I do need to clarify a few things. The 'W' in ZW5 means it uses wireless communication. It is not wireless. ZW5 has several cables.

This wireless communication is between a component mounted under the hood of your vehicle and the ZW5 power cord which powers your windshield mounted detector. This is so that you do not have to route a cable through the vehicle's firewall (the metal wall separating the engine from the cabin).

The ZR5 requires that you route a cable through the vehicles firewall.

Another thing to consider:
If you want to use more than 2 shifters up front, the ZR5 is required.
ZW5 is limited to a maximum of 2 shifters up front, and optionally 2 in back of the vehicle.

Thanks @EscortRadar and @amolinaro,

OK, I understand the differences between ZW5 and ZR5.

What (if any) are the differences in terms of features, etc. between ShifterMax and ZW5 / ZR5?

Thank you.

That is correct. I have a ZW5 which is a much easier install and let's you control everything from the detector rather than yet another mute button to mount near the dash. I also added the two additional ShiftMax sensors for the rear (which you have to buy directly from ESCORT). Yes, the are fully supported and the detector will indicate front or rear laser shifting.

They aren't cheap, but no system is complete without them. You have to order them direct from Escort. Call and ask for Spencer. They aren't available on the website. Here is the part no. and description directly from my invoice:

SHIFTER MAX PACK VER 2.0 (0100033-2 1) $599.95

Less than a ticket and potential insurance increases! Well worth the money, not to mention the peace of mind that comes with it knowing you are protected.
