Default K-Band Lockup on MAX II

I have to believe this is an isolated incident.

Unfortunately, earlier today the Max II locked up on me on K band. I don't consider it major, but it did lock up. Around 2:30 PM, ambient temps ~72F, many cars in downtown area and the unit sensed K band. There was a Kia in front of me so I assumed it was IVT punch through - but as I approached and passed the Kia, the signal strength (4-bars) never changed and volume was steady. It is a 7-mile drive to my house from where I was. During that time the signal was steady at 4-bars. After, maybe, 5 miles, it saved the signal (as, stored location!), then the display stayed grey at 4-bars. At a known stored location (school), it warned of a speed trap - normal speed trap display. After I passed, grey K band came back on. At home, it seemed like all the buttons were functional - I don't usually use them that often. However, the display would return to grey after on-screen button function announcement was done. When I pushed the power button on the detector, it asked if I wanted to save the location! Is that correct? I am sure I did not push the MRK button - I tried a couple of times and in both cases, the unit wanted to save the location. After I recycled power, all seemed fine. I'm hoping it was an isolated electronic display hiccup.

Thank you for the information. Were you using Escort Live when this happened?

I was not using Escort Live.

UPDATE: This morning, the unit won't power up no matter what I tried. It's done! I'm guessing the problem is related to what happened yesterday. I'll call ESCORT Customer Support tomorrow to have it replaced. I really think that this is isolated.

Default Another K Lock-Up

While the dead one was being replaced, I purchased a second Max II. It arrived on Monday last week and has been working fine until this evening at ~8:15 PM, 42C outside, ~75C in car - at the exact location I had a K-band lockup with the last unit, it occurred on this new one also, this time there were no other vehicles close to me. Same behavior except that at the ~5 mile mark, the display greyed out partially (as if it had encountered a saved location, but was not sure how to display). It warned of the camera trap at the school location. I also noticed that while it was locked up, the back light on all the buttons were flashing. Everything seemed fine following power cycling. Now, let's hope that tomorrow, unlike the previous unit, this one will power up and not die.

Incidentally, the replacement for the one which died came in on Saturday. So I hooked her up on same car and re-drove same route. This one did not lock-up.

I'll do that route some more times to see if there's something peculiar.

Odd and not cool. Let us know what you find. Don't want to jinx it but mine's been fine so far. Crazy it did it in the exact same spot. Was thinking it would be a non lockup problem, just detector died with the 1st one. But with another one doing it in the same spot isn't cool

UPDATE
The iX did perform normally the next day and has been running great since.

I ran my 9500ix on same route a couple days ago - it alerted to K on same location with no drama. So, there is a K band source at that location. Whether or not it is present all the time is something I'll have to figure out - just out of curiosity. I plan to run my Escort iX through - hopefully I'll get a lockout.

Also, I believe the vibration issue is basically resolved for me. I sent both units back to ESCORT and they were returned to me with slightly modified mounts - the spacing between the thumbscrew and the "face" of the RD is shorter on the updated mounts. The oscillations with the updated mounts are significantly reduced - to almost zero.

Think I unfortunately had this happen today. Was heading out of town, there is a lockout area before where I was- should have driven throught it before hand but either way could have been close. When I flipped it from auto to highway- I don't use low speed muting, it gave me a gray k alert, as I drove signal stayed at 1-2 bars, then went back to alerting- not locked out, FREQUENCY was bouncing around a little bit.
I let it go for awhile maybe a mile or 2, no other vehicles around for a bsm hit. Turned it off and powered it back on and the alert went away. Keep the volts on the display, they were moving so all seemed fine. So hopefully it was a random glitch/freeze.

Later, I was in town and was getting a k hit then would change to ka 33.8. Went on for a little bit but was next to a honda so most likely was that, but then it greyed out the k hit in bursts between the k and ka. So, maybe it thought the honda was stationary junk.

But either way the k hit going through fields with no other cars was bizarre. No escort live either

hopefully just a random glitch.

Messaged about it on the other forum, guy responded saying that what happened to me is not a lockup because of the frequency jumping around and I may have another issue with it. Hope all is fine
