Default iX not alerting at red light cameras

I have two light cameras on my way to work, passing through both at least twice daily. I am getting sporadic alerts from either direction. Sometimes it alerts perfectly fine, others long after passing through the light, sometimes not at all.

My mount is the standard sticky cup mount, bottom center of the windshield, so no GPS obstructions.

My understanding is that you DO NOT need to have EL running to get the camera warnings. I have noticed that it is more reliable with it on, but that isn't always an option.

I have had the unit serviced recently and the software was updated. I'm stumped as to why this would be happening....

Many intersections are not enforced in every direction. Your iX should only alert when you are approaching it from an enforced direction.

If you give me the intersection's details (both street names, city, state) then I can check it out in the database.

volman197020 -

I too have noticed sporadic camera warnings the past couple of days. It's way too soon for me to draw conclusions but one thing that crossed my mind was that maybe my Max II wasn't having good GPS reception during those 2 glitches.

I don't use a phone with my detector so the display shows my vehicle speed. If my detector was having trouble with GPS, it should affect the vehicle speed the detector shows. I have to pay closer attention the next time I approach either of those intersections.

If you're not using your phone with the detector, pay attention to the vehicle speed on your detector as you approach the intersections you had problems with. That may give a clue about whether your GPS is locked or not. If your GPS reception (and functionality) is good, the display should show your speed and the speed display should update pretty quickly if you're changing speed.

This is just a guess on my part so take it with a grain of salt.

Dan

I've had this happen at intersections where there is another red light camera a few hundret feet further. So two separate cameras short distance apart. It seems to happen when th detector is picking up another signal or alert either from EL or the environment. The issue seems to have subsided once false k was locked out in the area.

Are you getting other alerts shortly before, during or after? I wonder if theres a TSR sensor and the detector is running it through a filter causing a delay. I turned TSR off because it did absolutely nothing different for me after testing it at the same intersection 3 times. Full K blast with it on or off.

The two times I'm referring to, it was that I didn't get a red light camera (RLC) warning when traveling through two different intersections. There's no K band radar associated with these intersections, just the RLC warning from the Defender database.

On the first one, I went through the intersection and only once passed, did I realize I hadn't received the voice alert. But I wasn't actively listening for it either and I had something else on my mind at the time so I think maybe I just missed the voice alert. Next day through that intersection, I got the voice alert.

Same with intersection number 2 (the second time I think I didn't get an alert). Didn't think I got an alert but two days later, I did.

I just updated Defender in the last couple of days so maybe this has something to do with it.

I'm just going to pay more attention the next couple of times I go through those intersections.

The red light camera at Hamill Rd and State Hwy 153 is only enforcing northbound traffic and is showing this in the database.

The database does not have any cameras listed at Gadd and Hwy 153. I found it listed on the local .gov website so I will have this added to the next database update.

Thank you for the information!

I just found that we recently removed the red light camera at Gadd and Hwy 153 from the database in March because of reports of it no longer being active. If you are receiving red light camera alerts at this intersection then you may have an old database on your detector. Merge the latest database onto your detector and see if that helps.

Thank you

I think someone might have reported some false information. To the best of my knowledge that camera is still there and I get a strong K Band alert when I go through the intersection. The camera box is still on the pole. I just past the intersection 3 minutes ago. As with your information of having the camera deleted I got no warning but I still get the K Band speed warning at that intersection.

Sorry for the grammar in the last post. I'm using voice to text while driving.
