Glad to hear your performance on Ka is the same with your EX and Original too.
A number of others have also reported laser falsing.
Doubt anything is wrong with it given this, unless quality control is that poor. It is possible of course, but.......

There are many, many sources of Laser falsing. I'll cite a few:
  • LED displays (either external to the vehicle or inside it)
  • LED-based car lights
  • Neon signs
  • Sunlight (low on the horizon when driving in-and-out of shadows). I've personally experienced this.
  • LIDAR-based wind shear detectors around airports

These are just a few that have been proven to trigger false laser alerts. And not only with Escort's products, but with other vendors' products, too.

Anybody can Google this for themselves.

I have another brand detector that will false laser to every late model Mazda, Volvo and GM LED brake light. This is mostly in city traffic.

I've had the EX a little over a month and I do like a lot of the features, such as auto lockout. I've made some adjustments in the menu such as only using 2,5,8 for Ka and disabling RDR. Live in Ohio, so TSR is a must. It's been very quiet with mainly laser alerts from Mazda's traveling in the opposite direction setting it off.

One concern however, is that I don't seem to get anywhere near the range of my Magnum or V1. This morning I was driving behind a car and a K alert went off. A Leo drove by the other way about 100 feet later. Short range happen with Ka another time before I segmented the bands. That's a concern. Just need to find a stationary signal to get a better idea of the range.

I don't except the range of the detector the guys on the other forum always push, but I do want to be able to react to an alert.

Does anyone have any advice other than sending it in for service?

Thanks

That's not a concern. That's an epic save!

I recommend giving it more time crmgr. It should detect very similarly to your STi Magnum. If you are certain that it is not detecting well, then please contact us to have it serviced.

And remember to use Highway sensitivity mode to gauge maximum detection performance.

Yes and also please make sure if you're wanting optimal range that you do RDR off and band segs 2/5/8, especially if you had these settings on your magnum so it's a fair comparison.
