Default Loss of Escort Live alerts when Galaxy S9 screen turns off

Hi,

I have a Max360 and a Galaxy S9 that has an issue where if my phone screen turns off, I lose the speed limit sign and advanced warnings other Escort detectors have marked.

When I first got my Max360 with my Note5 this feature would work with the screen off, and I'm pretty sure on my S9 until the latest Escort Live update..This makes me believe an Android system permission for the app isn't set correctly.

It's not really that big of a deal, but I'd rather not run my screen if I don't have to, plus at night it wears on my peripheral vision.

Samsung Galaxy S9 all software kept current (including OS updates)
Escort Live v 2.1.9.4
Max360 firmware updated about a month ago (I can check the exact version when I get home from work, if that will be helpful)

I skimmed through other posts but didn't see this issue.

Any advice? I'd be happy to provide any information to help solve this.

Thank you!

Android 8 (Oreo) introduced this by reducing how often location services can be accessed by backgrounded apps. One forum member found a way around it.

IMPORTANTLY be aware that neither Escort Inc nor myself endorse or support this workaround.

Awesome, thanks for the unofficial "fix"..

I'm not afraid to experiment, at my own risk.

Thank you for the reply! I'll post back if I have anything noteworthy from the experiments.

Is Escort attempting to do anything about this. The workaround you posted is above my comfort level.

This is an Android OS issue, introduced in Android 8 (Oreo).

Perhaps users should consider contacting Google or Samsung. Just thinking...

Not trying to be snarky, but this is right up there with having a problem with how Windoze does something and thinking that calling up MickySoft to complain will do anything but get them to laugh in your face. Now, if you and a million of your friends called in...

I believe that many others are complaining about this change. If you do not like how they changed backgrounded app resource management, then you should be all means contact them about it.

We will look into what we can do, if anything, to address it.

Believe me I do. I have found numerous things in Excel and Word that are buggy to say the least and after searching for fixes & workarounds, I typically see that the problems I've found are old and have been reported eons ago (ok, I'm exaggerating here - the real timeframe is years) yet the problems still exist. That tells me they're not too concerned with them and are more interested in incorporating more "features" in the next version. MS is not the only company that does this of course. I call it "programmers arrogance". Programmers think they know everything about how their software can be run and users are just idiots who don't know what they are doing. A lot of times they aren't far off in their assessment, but occasionally users do find bugs and suggest improvements.

Whatever. I'm not holding my breath with regards to the megacorps listening to the customer base. I am however anxiously awaiting Escort's upcoming fix!
