Default Max II dim display

Itís almost impossible to read the display if the sun is out, even in the shade. I can only see the display at night. I have the display set to max brightness and Iím getting between 13.9-14.2V when the car is running. I opened it up to make sure that the ribbon cable for display was properly seated. When I had it open, I noticed that two of the capacitors looked like they were starting to leak. Itís kind of hard to tell from the pictures but there is a white crust forming on the top.

I know itís a long shot, but I ordered new capacitors and they should be here next week. If the display is still dim after installing the new capacitors, will Escort sell me a replacement display? Iíd rather install the display myself, instead of shipping it to them.

Escort doesn't sell individual parts. It will have to be sent-in for service. Save yourself the expense of the capacitors and the work-effort. Additionally, Escort will check your detector and tune it up. When it is returned, it will be like a brand-new detector.

Contact Escort customer service, available from 9am-5:30pm Eastern Time Mon-Fri at 1-800-543-1608 and request a service RMA.

I had the same problem with my MAX II (S/N 97...). I could barely read the display at night!
I sent it in for repair Priority Mail on Wednesday, 4/15, and it was returned good as new today, Tuesday, 4/23. They also included a new sticky mount and SmartCord... Extremely fast service!! I don't know if it's because I have an ESP warranty, but I'm impressed with their service!!

Even though you obviously have knowledge of various parts and repairs of electronics, you aren't an expert in Radar Detector Repair. You should send this unit into Escort and let them repair it for you and spare yourself the time and extra expense you may cause yourself due to errors in your work that will cause problems later on.

Opening these units up on your own is generally a bad idea in my personal opinion.

I have a MAX II S/n 67... Mine does not auto dim when I turn it on when its dark out so I have to manually dim it. If its on and I drive from daylight to dark it will auto dim. Its out of warranty and not that big of deal so I can live with it

There must be something wrong with your sensor. Send it to Escort.

This is a universally recognized fault with the Max II and perhaps the entire Max series. The good news is that when sent in for the $139 refurb you get returned a pristine, as new, great performing RD.

Have any users experienced burn in of the display? Mine has seemed to have lost its intensity or brightness over time. (Over 3 years old max 2, set to max brightness)Has anyone sent theirs back to have a display replaced and if so did that fix the issue? I have it mounted high and during the day it's hard to see.
