Angry Any Passport IQ Data Updates Expected?

I've been an owner of the Passport IQ for less than a year, and I am learning now how woefully lacking it's GPS database is. For example, there are some newer areas/addresses that are in my "older" Garmin GPS that don't even show up in my IQ. I moved to Durham, NC and discovered that the database is very weak in this area and the "services" search is even weaker (for all practical purposes it is useless). Just about every GPS on the market today has the ability to update frequently. To the best of my knowledge (I could not find it anywhere), the only updates even available for the IQ are things like red light cameras, speed traps, etc.), not places to shop, buy gas, lodging, and other services that are common on most other GPS systems. While the radar portion of this unit seems to work well, apparently little attention has been paid to the GPS portion.

Are there any plans to provide/sell data updates for the IQ any time soon. Perhaps I missed them if they are available....if so, please let me know how to purchase and/or download them.

Thank you.

You're not missing anything. The IQ is a great detector with a junk GPS thrown in. It'll get you to most destinations, but its feature set is sorely lacking for the money shelled out to buy it. I traded mine in for a SmartRadar and use my iPhone for any GPS needs.

From comments made on this forum by Larry, it can be understood that the Passport IQ is not a high priority for Escort. At least not as high for the flagship Max radar detector. My guess the return on investment is lower then Escort had hoped and would like to see. This was not always the case. Initially Escort thought the Passport IQ was going to take the RD world by storm. It was strongly marketed and highly praised. Over time, all of that has dropped of exponentially though. I too was in the market for an IQ because I want an all in one driving solution (Navigation with radar detection and radar alerts overlayed). I am glad I did not personally invest in the IQ. Great concept, poorly managed and updated.

Sadly, me too. I've been an Escort radar customer for years, and the IQ debacle (especially on the GPS side of things) had really lost my faith in what I thought was a very inventive and forward looking company.

I cannot in good faith suggest to anyone to purchase the IQ for the GPS functions....it is really bad.

They would be wise to add yearly map updates as well as real time traffic conditions to the subscription at a nominal cost.

Thumbs down Yearly Map Updates Sorely Needed for IQ

I agree. At least yearly map updates (if not sooner) would be welcomed and could revitalize the marketing of this product, whose concept is still unique and inventive and would live up to Escort's image as a forward thinking and inventive company. Most Garmin GPS machines now come with free lifetime map and traffic updates. I realize the escort probably does not own the software it uses in its GPS for the IQ, but I for one would be willing to pay a nominal fee for those new maps. Otherwise, the IQ is quickly becoming a dinosaur and obsolete.

Default Passport IQ Map Updates

Well, from reading through the threads, it appears that no updates are available anymore for the Passport IQ. Would there be any of the last updates available anywhere...through Escort or others? I have Version 1.1 and it appears that there is a Version 1.3 out there. I really like my Passport IQ and it fakes out those in cities where radar detectors are not allowed...I will a new Passport IQ was out and I would love to get a hold of the newer updates...if anyone knows a source.
