Default App shutting off its location service when you stop long enough.

Not sure what this thing is called but I really wish this could be a setting that we the consumer could control because Iím really starting to get tired of having to reopen the app all the time to keep my speed limit display up.

Oh and no, I donít mean completely opening the app back up from being closed as I donít close it, I leave it running in the background but thatís not good enough. As long as I donít stop, I donít have this problem but if I stop long enough, I have to click on the app to turn it back on. Location services for this app are set to Always so its not that.

This is not normal. I do not have this issue when using a detector with Escort Live for iPhone. What iPhone and iOS are you using?

Also, are you using a detector with it, or the app by itself?

iPhone 8+, iOS 11.4.

Using both detectors I have with it, my Max 360 and Redline EX. Canít honestly say if it does this with the 360 or not because I donít drive the vehicle that itís in like I do the vehicle that the RLEX is in.

Also, I donít know if this has anything to do with it or not but when I bought my RLEX, I never did buy the defender database or EL subscription with it because I was told that as long as I use my new Redline with escort live that I wouldnít need to since I already bought it for the Max 360.

I dunno, I canít remember where i saw it but I thought I read or heard somewhere that this was a feature that is only limited to the app, that shuts off its own location services once it senses you stopped to preserve battery power of you donít close out the EL app.

This is how Escort Live works. Having a Defender database subscription is not relevant. You do get the latest database when using Escort Live. The database is only used when you are not using Escort Live.

I am not sure why it is not working this way for you. I use Escort Live for iPhone daily and very rarely ever close the app. It auto shuts down and auto starts.

Check your iPhone's settings again. There must be a setting in it that is preventing this. If you figure it out then please let me know because I'd love to know what solved it.

The database works fine, itís just that sometimes I have to reopen the EL app to get the speedo display back up. And just to clarify, I donít mean opening the app in the traditional sense- Iím not closing the app completely, just leave it running in the background. Matter of fact, the only time I ever have to close the app is sometimes when I go from using it with the 360 to using it with the RLEX, Iíll have to close it then reopen it to get it to all work but on the issue of the dashes in the speedo part on the detector, I donít know whats causing that when i stop but so far, just a simple quick double click of the home button to bring the app outta the background fixes it. Thatís why I was saying that itís getting to be annoying, having to bring the app outta the background so many times.

But if it is my phone, what setting could be doing this because like I said, I have location services set to always. I donít know what other setting to check.

I understand your app usage. That is also how I use it, with it always in the background with the screen off.

Check your "Background App Refesh" setting for Escort Live. It's in the iPhone's "General" menu. You want it on (green). I cannot think of any other setting to check. Maybe uninstall and re-install would help...

I reinstalled the app so weíll see if that fixes it.

But yeah it was weird, if I ever got somewhere where there was no speed limit data and stopped for a while, when I got back out on a main road that had that data, Iíd have to double click my home button and then click on the escort live app to bring it out of the background to get my speed limit data back on my detector.

Try disabling notifications from Escort Live. This is in iOS's settings, not Escort Live's settings. This is how I use it. Your detector will continue to receive alerts from Escort Live while it is backgrounded.

Iím not worried about the radar detected alerts that show up on my iPhone screen- well, I donít like them, and thatís why I had them turned off all this time, and why I will eventually turn it off again, but I was pretty much just informing you of the top and bottom notifications in the screenshot of my last post where it said that escort live was shutting down because I hadnít moved in ten minutes. Thatís what I was under the impression had to do with causing the ď- -ď to show up my detectors screens, and even stayed there once I got on roads that had that information, that eventually lead to the having to bring the app out of the background to make it go back to putting the speed limit display on the screen.
