Post Do you guys have?

Just wondering what kind of products if there is any that you guys may have that would allow me to install a screen deck into my truck with escort live able to be integrated in as an app or have some way to have this setup on the deck and then connected to my radar detector via bluetooth instead of using my iphone and also still be able to have a sound system hooked up to the deck as well. Anything like this out there?

As far as I know I don't think so. Although I believe you are touching on the future though. I envision a time when most vehicles will have these touch screens in vehicles and most vehicles having a cell connection directly installed from the factory (no cell phone needed). When the time comes with all of these vehicles coming with cell phone/data connections it will just be a matter of downloading whatever app you want when you want and it will auto start when you turn on your ignition. No turning on blue tooth. No pairing the devices. Just an app that auto starts and works after you turn on your ignition. It is a ways off but I believe most vehicles in the future will be connected wirelessly and have a data connection innate. Until then we still have to do a lot of things manually. Until then the smart phone (or some other type of cell data transmit/receive device) still has to be part of the equation.

This may be a question for Escort directly though. I believe this screen would need some type of cell connection to connect/communicate with Escort. You most likely would need your smart phone in the loop somewhere.

This may not be helpful, but my 2012 BMW X5 has "BMW apps" which uses the screen for things like Twitter, Facebook, calendar, web radio, news, etc. However, the iPhone or BB must be connected by a cable.

BMW tends to be behind in terms of this kind of technology but the next BMW SUV (2014 out next year) promises significant advances on this front. Even so that would be light years from integrating something like EL.

The only direct cell connection from my X5 is BMW Assist and many other cars their own version of these emergency call systems. I once tried to call in to my car but BMW doesn't like that so I gave it up.

You may want to check out Pioneer's App Radio...the Moderator here even hinted that Live would be an available app in the future.

BMW assists sounds familiar to OnStar and other direct from the vehicle communications (no smart phone needed).

I foresee a future that either the government (in the name of safety and or traffic management) or the people (in their desire to be connected) will shape the auto industry into where most vehicles automatically ship with an innate cell/data connection. Right now these services (OnStar and such) are luxury, premium services. If or when this happens be prepared to see people start downloading (and paying for) these types of apps in droves. The numbers of active users of all of these apps (Escort Live, Waze, Trapster etc) most likely will go through the roof. If this happens you will most likely seldom hear there are just not enough users with any app. If (or when this happens) it will probably just mean you turn on your ignition and automatically Escort Live is active. No turning on your Bluetooth devices, no pairing of devices, no drained battery life etc.

Until then, sometimes it is a PITA to connect everything, or even keep things connected because of all the different things that have to come into play. Sometimes I keep everything powered on (GPS, Bluetooth etc) just so I dont have to hit a bunch of buttons each time, wait in the hot car for it to do its thing then start my drive on short frequent trips. Sometimes it is just too much of a PITA. I see myself not even bothering with it on shorter trips. I am sure others feel the same.

Ill have to check out Pioneer radio. I have never heard of this. It would be nice just to be automatically connected, with the ability to turn and keep it off at will of course.

Hi Cessna, I just checked out that Pioneer app radio. I do not have experience with it specifically but from the looks of it I think it is a step in the right direction. In the future, I envision a center console in most vehicles that is connected via a data stream automatically after turning on the ignition of the vehicle. Unless you opt to disable this of course. This center console would be a medium in which multiple apps can be downloaded, accessed, used and maintained. What would be awesome is if Pioneer went the next step and installed a cell phone receiver/transmitter in one of their units to be used in conjunction with this Pioneer App radio. This cell connection would be automatically activated once the unit powers on (most likely when you turn the key). The cell phone connection can be paid for by any number of carriers. Maybe even as a second phone line or maybe something can be negotited with the carriers as a low usage device for a better discount. If this where all put together then we could install the Escort Live app and it would automatically turn on and power off. All we would have to worry about is watching the alerts others posted and post our own authentic/true alerts.

Cessna, you are a genius! Thank you for giving me this idea! Maybe Escort or some other company can run with this!

I originally was looking for an MFD (Multi Function Display) for my phone...I basically wanted to take my phone and use its HDMI plug to connect to a much bigger, console mounted touch screen. MFD's are pretty popular in aircraft, however, very expensive.

I stumbled up the Pioneer App Radio and had some hope for the future. I think we'll get there, but am glad hold off until the 'right fit' is developed.
