Default Upgrading?

I currently use a 9500ix detector and it has worked great for me so far aside from recent false k bands from Honda oddyseys and false la band from Pacificas. So I was just wondering if it would be worth the money, assuming money was no issue, to take my 9500ix and give it to my fiance and get a Max 360 or redline ex? Does any have any input or comparison on the three mentioned detectors, pro and cons for each.

Hi Nightfall1293.

I own the 9500ix, the Max, Max 2, Max 360 and RedLine EX.

My first suggestion is to use the 9500ix as a trade-in for whatever detector(s) you want to purchase. Don't give the 9500ix to your fiancé, because it has no BSM filtering, and it would drive her batty on highways. Trust me on that.

If you want something for her that is the improved version of the 9500ix, look at the Escort iX. It's more-or-less the replacement for the venerable 9500ix, but it has improved features as well as built in IVT that combats BSM false alerts.

For me, the best all-around Escort detector is the Max 360. It has the ability to detect threat detection, but it's extremely fast in analyzing the threats owing to its all-digital design. It can track up to four simultaneous threats with band-type and frequencies. However, in overall raw range detection, have a look at the Redline EX. I've just received mine, and I'm putting it thru its paces, some I'm still learning about its overall capabilities. I'm coming to think that for most of my driving, I'll use my Max 360, but for long-haul driving, I'll swap to the Redline EX.

You'll be getting a lot of feedback on the forum about which Escort models might suit your needs, of course. But I wouldn't give your fiancé your old 9500ix for the reasons that I've mentioned. Use it as a trade-in, instead.

To me this sounds like you work for escort lol. I get about 1 false reading from other cars sensors about once a week. Where I live people just don't drive newer nice cars like that. Secondly, cops only use Ka band around where I live, so ignoring most k band signals is pretty common sense and I don't pick up a whole lot to begin with. So with that being said combined with the fact that trading it in will only get me 40 bucks towards my next one and I paid 250 for it is sat giving it to my ticket prone speed demon fiance would be a more financially responsible move at this point.

So to clarify I want to get one that can detect long range ka band and laser with 360 coverage. So as far as detection range how does the 9500ix compare to the redline or the max 360

You will want a detector that has Escorts IVT filtering and can be updated by you from your computer. You might try the new Redline, you could run it in auto mode, lo K, and drop one of the K band segments. The KA performance for your area will be far better then with your 9500ix.

Many people own more than one detector. I could sell my older ones, but I keep them to help trouble-shoot problems on the forum. I never use my 9500ix or original Max any longer.

If you want maximum range in a detector, then the Redline EX is the better choice. If you want 360 protection, then the Max 360 is the only option in Escort's lineup. It has very good range, but not that of of Redline EX. As I mentioned, I'm generally going to use the Max 360 most of the time, but I'll swap over to the Redline EX for long drives.

Long Range = Redline
360 Coverage = M360

As for laser - none of these are laser 'detectors', they are laser notifiers - as in you have been tagged by laser - the LEO already has your speed - you may or may not get a ticket depending on how fast you were going. Laser does not work like radar and cannot be detected at a distance. You might get very lucky and catch scatter from a car in front of you, but even that is rare. Depending how good the LEO was and how closer you were targeted you may not even get alerted (same for most/all RD's).

You have to figure out which one is more important to you...the longest range or 360 notification. The RL will still pick up LEO's behind you with radar, just not to the point of the M360.

Exactly what ^^^yellowtang wrote. The only defense against Laser are jammers/shifters.
