Exclamation Escort Live firmware update prompt after firmware was updated

If you have been successfully using Escort Live with your Escort or Beltronics radar detector and were recently prompted by the Escort Live app to update the detector's firmware then you will need to send in the radar detector and SmartCord Live cord for repair. Please call us at the number in my signature below to set this up.

Accepting the update will not help so please do not accept it.

Thank you

IMPORTANTLY if you are using a RedLine with Escort Live then do not accept the firmware update. If your RedLine has the new Expert software installed then you will lose the new features after you "update" the firmware with Escort Live.

Thank you
- Detector = Pro300
- Razr Maxx & iPhone 5
- OS? Android 4.1.2 iPhone 5 ?

I got this message when connecting my Android and iPhone Smart cord to a Pro300 so I updated both cords via detector tools. I was then able to update the RD with the newly updated Android cord and now it works fine with both.

I also had an issue connecting to the BT on the iPhone but with a power reset on the phone i was able to connect to BT.

Were you successfully using the Pro300 with Escort Live then out of nowhere received the message? That is what the orignal post meant. It is normal to have to update the cord before using Escort Live with a Pro300. See this stickied post.

Unhappy Firmware update - issue

Have recently received Escort Live and downloaded app for IPhone 5 - and using an IQ. accessing update, asks for 2 digits of S/n for IQ which is 27 - system will not accept. Live doesnt appear to function with E.L. Iphone iOS is 6.1.4. iPhone connects to E.L. via bluetooth beautifully - but says no Detector connected -

Understand this is a software issue and hopefully will be corrected soon.

Have had the IQ and ZR/4 for over a year now, far and away a technological jump from the the early 80s - LOL.

Happy with the IQ and ZR - already paid for themselves - I'm on the road 3500miles/month in the NW - Thanks to Escort and the team at Cinncinati Microwave for great driving tools.

Fleigen -

I am sorry but the SmartCord Live cord will not communicate with the Passport iQ. You can still use Escort Live by itself.

Power cord and Detector are fully updated. But I get same message whenever I try to link the two.

Then there is a communication between the detector and the SmartCord Live cord. Check the detector and power cord connections and make sure the telephone style jacks look operational (no bent pins or debris in them). All 6 pins are used.

If this does not help then please contact our service department to set up a service number. We will probably need your detector and SmartCord Live cord.

I'm having a strange problem where the detector WILL connect to Escort Live when the car is off (voltage is 12.5), but when the engine is running (voltage is 13.5) the app WILL NOT connect to the detector.

Regardless of whether the car is running or not, when bluetooth is enabled on the phone, the app sees the direct wire bluetooth address and connects on the phone, the 'LIVE" icon on the direct wire unit is lit up blue confirming the pairing, and the 'report' feature on the unit works with the app (hit the report button on the direct wire unit, the app responds accordingly).

When the car is running, the bluetooth icon on the Escort Live APP is lit up yellow. I keep getting prompted that the radar detector is not communicating with the app, and to update the firmware, it asks for the first 2 digits of the serial number, says it can't update and to connect to a computer, etc etc etc. Also, in the app settings, the "Radar Detector Settings" and "Bluetooth Settings" are greyed out. I have tried updating the firmware on the direct wire and radar detector multiple times and get 'successful' results each time. Power cycling the phone does not help. As stated before, the 'report' feature works, the direct wire unit is paired successfully (according to the phone settings), the LIVE icon on the direct wire is lit blue, the app sees the bluetooth address.

Again, if I turn the car off and leave accessory power running, everything works as it should. I can go into the radar settings from the app, the icons on the direct wire live and android app are blue, and no errors are reported.

Also, when I turn the car on the detector powers on, then a few minutes later it power cycles again. Don't know if this is a related issue?

Detector: 9500ix
Android: 4.2.2
Phone: Galaxy S3

As specified in the SmartCord Live direct wire's installation instructions, you must connect your SmartCord Live direct wire to a switched +12V power supply, one that turns off and on with your car's ignition. Yours is connected to a constantly on power supply.

There are two things happening:
- 1) The direct wire's bluetooth is timing out and shutting down after an extended amount of time without a device connection.
- 2) Your direct wire and detector are experiencing low voltage and possibly high voltage spikes when your car's engine is starting. This is in effect rebooting your direct wire/detector and possibly restarting bluetooth.

Connecting the direct wire and detector to a switched (ACC) power supply should solve the issue. If not then the direct wire and detector require servicing.

The directwire is hardwired into the ACC wire for the stereo. I should have specified... car not running, key at the Accessory position. When the key is not in the ignition, the unit is not powered on.

I'm worried that if I send the unit in for servicing, your engineers will not find a problem since they only occur when the car is running. When the unit is powered on without a running engine (key in acc position), the radar will connect and I don't experience any of the errors mentioned earlier. I'm curious if you have a test station that can duplicate that type of situation (running engine)?
