Default Am I Doing Something Wrong?

Ok, so my plan has been to get an Escort (Max 360) and pair it with the Escort Live app.
My hopes would be to get the added benefit of the other user alerts for KA and laser, but mostly I will really hope to have the use of the defender database to get the red light SCAMera alerts (reason could be a whole other thread... long rant!).
Have not yet purchased the Max 360 but wanted to preview the Escort Live app to see it in action. So, I guess my question is am I doing something wrong or are the alerts minimal? and does it need to be paired with a detector to get the most alerts? I am not seeing much, in fact no alerts yet(other than speed) but when I zoom out at times I do see some speed traps and sometimes a couple of KA. I live between Milwaukee and Chicago and will often travel into the city for work, etc... so I would have thought to see alot of action.
I do run Waze also and have had helpful alerts popup for me. Is the Escort Live app not utilized by many users? Would that be the issue?
Would like very much for some input from yous guys whom know mucho more than me. I have never been much of a radar detector guy and admit am doing it mainly for the red light scamera alerts but would also like the added benefit (and fun) of the other alerts as well.

A few other questions;
Can the alert sound be adjusted louder, it is rather quiet (I get the speed alerts but are soft)
Do I need that "SmartCord Live" for the Max 360? Don't think so?
Will the 360c update the defender database automatically through wifi? (if I am subscribed)
Performance-wise is the 360c as good as the 360?
Any known upcoming black friday deal$ on a 360 or 360c?

Thank you!

The free Escort Live app does not include detector based Live alerts (eg X, K, Ka and Laser alerts) or speed limit data. To add these you will need to purchase a premium subscription from within the app. If you purchase a detector that is compatible with Escort Live, such as the MAX 360, then it includes a one year premium subscription.

When you use a MAX 360 with the Escort Live app then all of the Live based alerts, their direction and their distance, are displayed on the detector's screen, along with the speed limit data of the road you are traveling on (if available). You can leave the screen of your phone turned off (which greatly saves battery charge) and the app in the background and still receive the nearest user reported alerts and speed limit data. You can also run other apps in the foreground, receiving data and prompts from them, while receiving Escort Live data on your detector.

About Live alerts
If you have not been moving for 5 minutes, then the Escort Live app will stop refreshing alerts around you. This is done to limit data usage. Moving, connecting to a detector, or logging out and logging back in should refresh all nearby alerts. You are also limited to seeing alerts in a 25 mile radius around you, which is also done to limit data usage.

Can the alert sound be adjusted louder, it is rather quiet (I get the speed alerts but are soft)?
Yes, simply adjust the volume on your smartphone. Some phones have ringer and media volume adjustments. Escort Live uses media.

Do I need that "SmartCord Live" for the Max 360? Don't think so?
No, MAX 360 comes with bluetooth built-in for connecting to Escort Live.

Will the 360c update the defender database automatically through wifi? (if I am subscribed)
Sort of, it automatically checks. Whenever your MAX 360c connects to a Wi-Fi network it will check for the latest Defender database. If a newer database is available then it will ask you if you want to install it. By default, MAX 360c checks for new database and firmware every time that the detector is powered on and connects to a Wi-Fi network.

Performance-wise is the 360c as good as the 360?
Yes, they both use the same antenna so performance is similar.

Any known upcoming black friday deal$ on a 360 or 360c?
MAX 360? Possibly. MAX 360c? Not that I am aware of.

Ok, thank you for the reply.
I guess I should have made it more clear that I did subscribe (through play store) for the premium service to fully test the app.
so, just want to clarify, the radar detector being connected to the app does not enhance what the app alerts to? It only will post the alerts to the radar detector screen from the app and also post the alerts from the detector to the app (and to Escort Live network for others to see). But, otherwise I should get all alerts (within 25 miles when I am moving) so technically could just run the app on my phone to see all alerts reported from detectors as well as police spotted and red light cams etc. in my area?
When my phone would be blacked out with the app running, when it alerts it will play the alert sound or have some alert box pop up on my screen or both?
Thank you

Correct. If you have a paid subscription then you are getting all alerts and information from Escort Live that you would receive from Escort Live with a detector connected to it.

It audibly alert on the detector and displays the alert icon along with an arrow pointing to the direction that it is located and the distance to it, as shown here.
