Default Max 360 FAQs

It seems that there's a lot of interest in the Max 360, so I thought that it might be a good idea to collect all of the frequently asked questions and put them here. As new questions come along, we can roll them into this list of FAQs. Please don't be shy if I've misstated anything here.

Update from EscortRadar: If your Max 360's serial number begins with 85 then you must pair your iPhone to it from within Escort Live's "Device" settings, not from within the iPhone's Bluetooth settings.

What is the Max 360?
The Max 360 is Escort's latest offering. It builds on the strengths of the Max 2, but includes forward and rearward-facing detection capabilities. The display includes directional threat arrows to help the driver identify whether the threat is ahead of them, behind them or along the side.

Does it have a detection range equivalent to the RedLine?
Escort believes that the performance of the Max 360 will be close to that of the RedLine with RedLine detecting further in some scenarios.

Does the Max 360 have the stealth capabilities of the RedLine?
No.

Does it have BS/RDR like the Redline?
No.

What type of display does the Max 360 use?
It uses a full color OLED display to show alerts, driving speed, posted speed limits, etc. The directional arrows are back-lit using bright multi-color LEDs.

Does it have GPS capabilities for GPS-based lockouts and displaying one's driving speed?
Yes.

Does the Max 360 incorporate Bluetooth for use with Escort Live on a smartphone?
Yes.

Does the Max 360 come with a year's premium subscription to Escort Live?
Yes. It also comes with a 90-day trial subscription for Defender as well. You must register your detector to update the Defender database on it and to use your premium Escort Live subscription. Registering your detector is not necessary to update its firmware.

Where can I register my Max 360?
Register your Max 360 HERE.

Is the Max 360 better at rejecting false alerts from new vehicle Collision Avoidance Systems and other "Driver-Assist" technologies?
Yes.

How much is the Max 360?
Currently $649.95 USD.

Does the Max 360 work with mounts designed for the Max and Max 2?
The Max 360 will work with the existing mounts for the Max and Max 2, but the one included with the Max 360 is slightly different. Additionally, the Max 2 uses a magnetic latching mechanism rather than a physical latch, so there is no "release" button on the Max 360. It simply slides on and off the tang and holds it securely in place.

Can the Max 360 lock-out Ka signals?
No.

What are the Max's dimensions?
1.360" H x 3.60" W x 5.430" L. When compared with a Passport Max, the Max 360 is 0.06" Higher x 0.4" Wider x 0.13" Longer.

Can the AutoMute volume be adjusted on the Max 360?
Yes, three levels (high, normal, low) and off.

Can the Posted Speed and/or the Actual Speed be disabled in the display?
The actual speed can be changed to vehicle voltage. The speed limit is always displayed when the detector is connected to Escort Live. When not connected to Escort Live the OverSpeed setting is displayed or a bluetooth icon if a paired smartphone is within range.

Will the directional threat arrows also appear in the Escort Live app?
Yes. An upcoming release of the Live app will include the threat arrows.

Will existing Direct-Wire SmartCord installations work with the Max 360?
Yes. The Max 360 uses the same connectors as Escort's previous detectors (e.g., Passport 8500, 9500ix, RedLine, Max and others).

What is the current firmware available for the Max 360?
Version 1.5, released August 10, 2016.

How do I update the firmware and/or database on my Max 360?
Download Detector Tools HERE.

Install Detector Tools on your computer.

Do not connect to 12Vdc power when updating.
Connect your Max 360 to your PC or Mac using a USB A to mini B data cable (not included) and update it using Escort Detector Tools.

The lower green button is for updating the firmware (software) of your detector. If it informs you that your software (firmware) is already current then I do not advise to force it to update.

How do I check the current serial number and software (firmware) version on my MAX 360?
To view your ESCORT Max 360’s serial number and software revision, press MRK and MUTE (remember "M & M") while powering on the detector.

How do I restore my Max 360 to its original factory settings?
To restore ESCORT Max 360 to its original factory settings, press and hold BRT and MRK while turning the power on. A “Restored” message will display, acknowledging the reset.

Where can I download the Max 360 Owners Manual?
Max 360 Owner's Manual

Where can I download the Max 360 Quick Reference Guide?
MAX 360 Quick Reference Guide

A hint that might help some find information a bit easier:
vBulletin's built-in search function is not known to be good. I suggest doing a regular Google search and adding site:escortradarforum.com to your search terms.

Example: A quick regular Google search for current firmware site:escortradarforum.com currently turns up Is there an easy place to always find current firmware for MAX360 and MAX 2? as the first result.

Good idea to have all the 360 specs/capabilities/comparisons under one seperate thread. They were getting buried in the various posts.

The mount answer is confusing, it says it can use the same mount as the Max and Max 2 but is different? I have a back up mount in my other car for my Max and it doesn't use magnets but physical mount will this work with the 360? Also I would expect my 2nd Combo Smart Cord for my Max will work with the Max 360 correct?

I don't know what's different between the Max/Max 2 mounts vs the mount for the Max 360. The answer in the FAQ was based on EscortRadar's information. Perhaps the one for the Max 360 doesn't have notches in the tang, or it has some other differences. I don't really know.

My understanding is that the magnets in the Max 360 are similar to those in the updated Max/Max 2. The updated magnetic mount in the Max/Max 2 work with the original mounts' notched tangs, and so I would expect that the Max 360 will securely hold the detector in place on them.

I use a Blendmount 99% of the time, and it uses a different means of securing the detector.

Regarding the combo SmartCord, I would expect that it will work just fine.

I presume you are asking if the Max 360 can be operated i "dark" mode? I presume so, since the Max and Max 2 can be operated that way.

Wouldn't that defeat the idea of the arrows?

You will be able to run the detector in blacked out mode in conjunction with Escort Live and see the alert with arrows on your connected device.

Mark, thanks for the reply. I just have never seen the reason to run dark or even need Escort Live as the original Max did and has done a great job on locating radar for me. I understand some people like more screen space and adjusting the settings on the fly using the app, but I really set it and forget it.

I totally agree with you on running dark, I do like having the speed and alert data that comes from Escort Live though.
