Exclamation Ka segmenting software now available on Passport 9500ci

We are pleased to announce the availability of a software update for the Passport 9500ci which adds the following features:
  • Ka band segmenting - The ability to enable and disable certain frequency segments of the SuperWide Ka band. ONLY expert detector users should change these settings. It is possible to disable detection of true Ka police radar.
  • RDR toggle - The ability to disable Radar Detector Rejection false alert filtering.
You can adjust the new Ka band segmenting and RDR features in two ways; on the system itself, or by using Escort Live:

- In the Passport 9500ci's settings menu, turn "Ka SW" off then turn on the Ka segments that you would like the 9500ci to detect.

- In Escort Live's "Radar Settings" menu, turn "Ka" off then turn on the Ka segments that you would like the 9500ci to detect. If you leave the "Ka" setting on then the segment settings will not take effect.

- RDR is listed in the "bands" settings, after TSR. Disabling RDR will enhance radar detection performance but with increased Ka false alerting. Disabling un-needed Ka segments will help reduce Ka false alerting.

Once you set these options then they will remain set in your 9500ci, even between power cyclings, until you change them or restore the unit's factory default settings.

The Ka segment frequencies, in GHz, are:
Ka1 = 33.392 - 33.704
Ka2 = 33.704 - 33.896
Ka3 = 33.886 - 34.198
Ka4 = 34.184 - 34.592
Ka5 = 34.592 - 34.808
Ka6 = 34.806 - 35.166
Ka7 = 35.143 - 35.383
Ka8 = 35.378 - 35.618
Ka9 = 35.595 - 35.835
Ka10 = 35.830 - 35.998

Only enabling segments Ka2, Ka5, and Ka8 should cover most users in North America.

A modification to the system's high and low voltage protection was also implemented in this software.
The system will shut off with input voltage below 10.5VDC and above 16VDC.

Thank you for choosing Escort Radar!

* Systems with Laser ShifterPro have serial numbers that begin with 63. In early 2015 we will be releasing this software for older 9500ci systems with serial numbers beginning with 16.
SWEET!!! I can't wait to get home today!

Adding LSPs will not currently allow you to use this software. Please read the entire post. The update for older 9500ci's which have a serial number beginning with 16 should be available in a few weeks, early 2015.

After updating segment 3 stays on. I can toggle all the other segments to on/off but segment 3 reverts to on each time I try to turn it off.

I've tried it after updating, and also after going to the Advanced tab and updating all. Same result when attempting to turn off segment 3.

Is it normal to not be able to turn off segment 3?

I thought RDR was also supposed to be able to be turned off now. I don't see this as an option, and I've explored every setting that I can find (using iPhone to configure detector, and I just checked that there is not a newer version of Escort Live! available). I don't see TSR or RDR in the band section as listed above...

You are supposed to be able to change all segments. RDR should be an option a few steps after the KA segments in bands. Does your serial number begin with 63? I would try a hard reset and force the update again.

How do I do a hard reset?

I've tried the followed the instructions for the update process to update the firmware; I also tried to update everything by updating all from the Advanced tab.

look in the book or on the website, I don't have mine with me. there are two buttons you hold down while powering up the unit, this will reset your settings back to default, after that try the update all again. Resetting sometimes works little glitches out. are you holding power and mute while powering up to do the update to place the CI in usb mode? Does you serial number begin with 63?

OK, finally got it to reset to factory settings. With this my display no longer showed anything! I could toggle brightness and hear through the speaker that the settings were changing, but the display was completely black. Using Live! I could see that the detector was running.

I used the Advanced tab of Escort Tools (to update all devices) and followed the on-screen directions to update everything. Tools updated 5 different items, and then the 9500ci rebooted and my 9500ci display was working again!

I checked settings using Live! and same as before. Cannot turn off segment 3, but all other segments toggle as expected.

Also there is still no option to turn off RDR (or TSR).

I then tried to update the database (in case that gets removed by a hard reset) and I got an error that the database was corrupt (it was fine earlier today). I removed the database and installed fresh data using Escort Tools, and this seemed to complete normally.

I wonder if I have a bad detector. The installer had issues setting it up initially and had to call Escort for problems 3 times. He had problems getting the the hardwired Live! to work, then he had problems getting the display to work if the hardwired Live! was also connected (either one would work, just not if both connected).

With this update, those of us with the 9500ci should see a substantial improvement in the performance of the unit. Traditionally, the ci acted like the old Redline, aka sleeping beauty, meaning it was slow to react on quick or instant on Ka shots. RDR off should change that substantially and do away with the delay as was the case when Redline got the same improvement nearly two years ago. The addition of band segmentation means that the ci will have to sweep LESS of the Superwide Ka band, meaning that it should be more reactive and false less to Cobras etc., particularly in the 33.6XX range which is near MPHs 33.8. (This will be handled by seg # 2 being ON. As ER stated, the best segs to turn on are 2/5/8/. There's been much hullabaloo about out of tune Ka guns, BUT this is a very rare occurrence. ITS your option if you want to turn on Seg # 6, 7,9 to cover those potentialities. Remember though, the more segs, the slower the sweeps.

The update did magic to the Redline a few years back and this one should do the same. I am expecting Stir-O like performance from the ci. IN the meantime, Happy Motoring and Drive Smart!!
