  • Instead of using the "green" button, select the "Manual Updates" menu option, and then select "Update Firmware".
  • Grab a cup of coffee and wait.....
  • ... and wait....

After the firmware update is complete, remember to power-up the detector from a 12V source to finalize the firmware update.
Thatís EXACTLY what I did (Iím not new to this), and had my issue. I tried using the Windows version of Detector Tools, and it says there is no Detector attached, yet I get a sound from Windows when I plug it in. I originally tried with v.2.4.9 when it failed. I updated to v.2.4.12 and had the same result.

@TBNTX I am sure its a bit of a hassle but I really think a brief video going step by step perhaps showing whats OS is on your Mac, version of detector tools and the steps your detector goes through when updating would be a huge help to novices and seasons users alike. Sometimes we read things one way and go about doing them slightly different. I know this forum gets beat up on a lot for the lack of support and help, which I find far from the case but a video of your set up could go a long way to end such talk too.

Some are reporting that they have been able to update their Max using the latest Mac Detector Tools, while others cannot. This is where this interconnected world gets tricky. We are working on it and should have a solution soon.

Anytime, it is a fair observation. Every time I have had a question and posted here, you or others have answered it, you have always responded. I may not always be thrilled about the response but thats been beyond your control. I appreciate the support always.
However when @TBNTX doesn't respond or shrugs off a request as not needed yet states he can do something that others, myself included have struggled with it gives the critics more ammo.

TBNTX stated he doesn't use the Mac OS to update he runs a windows platform on his Mac for his updates, than he decided to update his old Max on his Mac to test if any issues came about. He had no issues, several of us have. He posted the steps he took, all of which I myself followed directly and still had a failure. Somewhere some step is missing. I don't think a video from a moderator is really an absurd request. We all want to get our Max/Max II's up and running with the best firmware available regardless of what computer platform we happen to own.

This isn't meant to be combative, it's a request for some much need help from several off us and also serves as proof to all those so quick to say it's a failure.

I do not think there's a step that you are missing. We're working on a solution for Mac Detector Tools.

Dom, please bear in mind that moderators on the forum like me aren't Escort employees. We're only members on the forum who volunteer our time to help as best as we can to keep things moving along smoothly. My comments/replies come from my experience as a user here, not as any official voice of Escort.

I doubt that anyone here would agree with your assertion that I "shrug off requests". I have consistently done my best to help others.

For the record, I only use Windows to use DTP for my latest detectors. I still use the Mac version of DT for earlier detectors, including my Max. There's a difference. Please don't misrepresent my words.

I maintain my original Max for testing and validation reasons. Owning it, I can help troubleshoot Max-related issues on the forum. I rarely use it, otherwise.

Coming to your request for a video, though, even if I owned video capture software for my Mac, what value would such a video bring? I did describe the steps that I took, and I reported that my results were successful. How would a video make any difference? The video would only confirm what I had already reported, wouldn't it?

You're welcome to purchase a license for Camtasia for me, and then I could produce a video for your review, but why do you need some sort of video proof? Seriously?

Your comments about me are incorrect and I find them misguided.

Here you go, Dom.

Here's a video that I pulled together this morning using a demo version of Camtasia. The video only shows the steps that I've already described, and that things are working for me.

Mac Detector Tools v2.4.9 on macOS X 10.13.5 installing on an original Max with a s/n starting with #58. The video is start-to-finish, so it's clear that there aren't any edits.

UPDATE: For further testing, I downloaded Mac Detector Tools v 2.4.12, and I repeated the same process. Again, I had no issues updating the firmware on my Max. If anything, the newer version seemed to have proceeded more quickly. The full firmware-update process was completed in 3 mins, 45 secs, but the results were the same. I experienced no issues.

I won't waste any more of my time making another video.

So let's take this forward in an effort to learn why updating the firmware is trouble-free for some people using Mac DT, but others are reporting issues. Let's try to gather some details in an attempt to isolate a common cause. Everybody, please chime-in:
  • What Mac computer are you using? Please include model number, if possible.
  • What version of macOS are you using?
  • Do you have any anti-virus software installed? If so, which product and which version do you have?
  • What version of Mac DT are you using?
As a community, perhaps we can bring together all of the information needed to isolate the common factor. Please provide whatever details that you think might be relevant.

The failure that some are experiencing when updating their Passport Max in the update process is not due to incorrectly performing the update. We are aware of this issue and are looking into it. We hope to have a solution soon.

Posting the information that TBNTX requested would be helpful.

Thank you

Here's what I was using:
Macbook Pro (Late 2008)
OSX v. 10.11.6
Avast v 13.9
DT v 2.4.12
