Default No False Alerts Now

So I updated my Max 2 with v1.9 using Detector Tools Pro 2.3.3.13. I used it for several hours on the road, and truly saw no improvement in rejection of BSMs from the standard culprits as I reported earlier. This contrasted with what I was seeing from others on the forum. I did confirm on DTP that I did have 1.9 installed.

Out of curiosity, I decided to try the update with Detector Tools 1.11.12.0. I uninstalled DTP and installed DT. I elected to wipe all the saved data and then did a complete reinstall of the firmware - which seemed to take much longer to complete than when I initially installed 1.9 using DTP.

I then added the latest database subscription.

Much to my surprise on two trips totaling about an hour of driving including I-95, the only false alert was from a security system at a local car dealership which was autosaved after going by it a couple of times.

So I can't explain this.

My opinion with the update - much better - no as loud - however still picking up signals from Acura MX - engineers missed this one.

Acuras are among the worst sources of falses. As good as the new IVT filtering is, it won't be 100% perfect, and some vehicles might still punch-thru.

I have always though the Max2 was very good about rejecting IVT compared to my other detectors and so far it has not given a false alert with the update. On my 50 mile round trip commute more often than not I do not get any false alerts so it will take some time to see if it is better.

Well almost a week of commuting the detector is definitely quieter. On the rare occasion that it does go off due IVT it is a low level signal and doesn't last long. One interesting thing is there is a traffic light on my commute that uses K band radar to control the light. While it has been a locked out signal since I got the Max 2 there is no longer an alarm being reported at all since the update.

I have always been pretty happy with the lack of false alarms on the Max2 and I didn't have any expectations that the update would be 100% effective (it would be silly to expect otherwise) but it is definitely a significant improvement. In a nut shell I am very satisfied with this update.

Default Observations after performing update

No longer gives a false alert on speed limit signs. I have two within 4 blocks of my house.

Honda/Acura's still false. The difference is that the reported frequency is constantly bouncing around now where previously it would constantly alert.

It is very different now when falsing with Honda/Acura. Example: false alert will occur and then is seems like the device realizes it should apply the IVT filter and stops alerting, then a few seconds later starts again with a different frequency realizes it should be filtering then stops and repeats this cycle until out of range of the Honda/Acura. When close to the offending vehicle it is a constant alert with constant cycling of the band reported.

It now alerts on Chrysler Pacifica's from further away than before the update. No change to Mazda vehicles with BSM, still bad.

All GM vehicles with BSM are now worse. Alerts on them from further away and now it goes off on every single one of them that has BSM. Where before you had to be right up on them for it go off and it would cycle between K and Ka for GM's.

Did the update change anything with the Ka band, I have noticed that I have had one Ka alert since the update. I drove through 3 speed traps since the update and had only 1 alert in that band when Ka was being used. I know they were not using laser because I have also put my old 9500 in my car to verify some suspicions(because it goes off on everything) and was alerting through all three traps on Ka Max II only the one time.

I understand that IVT filtering will never be perfect, just asking for the updates to be timely like they had been promised when my device was purchased. If you make regular incremental updates, instead of once every 18+ months, you keep your customers happy. This is my 4th escort detector since I started driving in 1992.

I have mentioned in many posts before, there must be a hardware limitation in the Max II as to what could have been done. There had to be some give and take and this may be the best we are going to get.

Default Should I update

From the sounds of omahawk's results, I probably should NOT update my Max 2. It sounds like it's worse after the update. Earlier reported results were not so bad. What gives? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?

Significant improvement here over v1.8.
