Default Detector firmware update failed? Read this

The first time that you run Escort Live with a detector connected your detector's firmware is updated. The app should identify your detector then ask you if you want to update. If the update fails then there is no option currently in the app to install it again. To update the detector again you will have to un-install the Escort Live app and re-install it.

Most update failures are caused by the phone going into sleep mode/times out (screen goes dark). Before updating set the phone's time out period to at least one minute.

If the app does not recognize what kind of detector is connected then please contact us at the number below.

I got the update failed message with my Redline the first time I installed Live, and a message saying my detector may not work right ... followed the instructions here twice and did a factory reset of the Redline the second time. It has never asked to update the firmware again.

Everything seems to be working OK with the detector and Live. Hopefully it's all good.

Default Firmware update fails

The Smartwire EL setup arrived and I installed it just this morning. After pairing the BT, I started the EL App and it popped up a message that the detector firmware needed an update. Entered the first two digits, confirmed that it's a REDLINE, confirmed to proceed and after roughly 1 minute, the progress bar jumps all the way across and the update failed. Tried several times, read this thread and restored the RL to factory settings and tried a few more times with no luck.

I have a LIDAR tester that will cause the RL to alert to LASER but it fails to report the intercept. I am able to make reports from the EL interface. I did have 3G and WiFi connectivity at the time of the setup and testing.


- phone model: iPhone 4S
- phone's OS version: iOS 5.1.1
- Escort Live version (should be 1.0.1 for Apple, 1.04 for Android): 2.01

I suspect it's going to be something simple but I look forward to any ideas for resolution.

How do you accomplish a factory re-set of the passport 8500x50 Red line?
I had a firmware update failure as well.

- phone model: iPhone 4S
- phone's OS version: iOS 5.1.1

Turn off your X50, hold down Mute, City, and Dim buttons while turning it on. The X50 should show "reset" as it powers on.

Please call us if your X50 continues to fail the Escort Live firmware update. The current version of Escort Live is v2.0.3.

I'm having this same issue with a Beltronics GX65. The escort app tell me to update the firmware on the gx65. I try through the app and the update fails. I have removed the app and retried again same result.

I go to the detector tool and the tool says that the detector firmware is up to date. I still update it anyways. Next, I go and update the smartcord and it updates.

The thing is I have to use two different detector tools. Beltronics has their own tool and the smartcord uses the escort tool. I take it back to the truck and I get the same message.

I have a Samsung gs3 and using the most up to date software for the tools and the app. OS is 4.04 and app is 2.0.3
