Default Escort Live Coverage Area?

How far out does it show alerts on the map? I thought I read 50 miles somewhere? Is that 50 miles in all directions from my central point, or 50 miles across - 25 miles around me?

I agree. I would love to be able to scroll around the map as well to see alerts elsewhere, maybe places I plan to travel in the coming weeks, see if there are reoccurring areas of active radar/laser, etc.

My understanding is that the ~40/50 mile diameter (~20-25 miles radius) limitation is to reduce data usage.

EDIT:

EDIT:
How much data is used by showing a 'pin' on a map? There has to be another reason.

Gathering and updating alert data to know where the pins go is what uses data. Covering larger areas means more alerts so the amount of data used would be more than over a smaller area.

In my experience Escort Live uses an average of 1MB/hour.

The more alerts that are in your area, the more data you will transfer/use.

With respect, I suspect the you might not have a full understanding. This is all about the almost real-time check-ins from the app with the EL cloud using your smart phone. Whether or not a new threat is logged, or a pin is dropped, your smartphone will be constantly querying the EL database. The queries (and responses) will consume much more data if the Area size is increased. And since the data that is being consumed adds up in one's service plans with their providers, it makes sense to limit the size of the area.

It's possible to consider limiting the query frequencies, but reducing the frequency might mean that a newly-reported threat wasn't seen, and the driver wasn't aware.

Speaking for me, radarcc, I don't need to see what's happening 50 or 100 miles away, because the threats are constantly changing minute-by-minute. And it doesn't matter to me if there might distant threats 50/100 miles away that are lateral to my planned driving path.

All the best!

I run escort live on my tablet in the house. And I would love to see 100 min radius of live alert

I know it would require a fair amount of work on Escorts end....but it would also be nice to be able to access a US map (like you can with Waze) showing all the alerts on-line via a computer or tablet, not just using the app. I see they are pushing the Limitless Range feature and that would only go to promote it even further.
