Default 9500ix DOA - Will it be a battle to get a refund?

My 9500ix arrived, operates sketchy (LEDs go in and out), no sound. I tried to get the unit to work in two different vehicles and tried all sorts of trouble shooting. No luck. Escort live chat wasnít working even though I tried to use it before ďclosing timeĒ of 5:00 pm EST. No response yet to my email. Iím not familiar with the company and am now starting to think that it must be a pretty scammy company if they send out DOA units and have zero customer service response. Is it going to be a battle to get my money back? Iíve already opened a case with PayPal (thank God I used PayPal) and am prepared to go the BBB / bad reviews everywhere route. Any advice on how to get this company focused on a customer service issue? Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware, Escort hasn't sold the 9500ix directly to customers for almost two years. From what merchant was it purchased?

If you purchased it from an authorized Escort reseller, you can return to them for a refund, or you can send it to Escort (with proof of purchase) and it will be fixed under warranty.

If it was purchased from an unauthorized merchant, your only option is to return it to them for a refund.

It might be worthwhile to read Escort's policies for items purchased from unauthorized resellers.

Best wishes, but if this wasn't purchased directly from Escort, then it isn't Escort's responsibility to refund your purchase.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the response. Well, that might be a part of the problem. I ordered the detector from: https://www.escortradar.com/passport9500ix/ but the payment went to Cedar Electronics Holding Corporation. Itís just my luck that Iíve been scammed and got a bogus unit!

Escort is a division of Cedar Electronics.

Simply give Escort Radar customer service, available from 9am-5:30pm Eastern Time Mon-Fri at 1-800-543-1608. Escort has a 30 day test drive period, no threats necessary, if you bought directly from them.

https://www.escortradar.com/faq.php
"30 day trial

All of our detectors ordered directly from the factory come with a 30-day money back trial period. Within that time you can return the order for refund or exchange. Shipping charges are not refundable and you will be responsible for return shipping costs."

Default Sketchy Company

I appreciate your posting that link. Unfortunately, a company can put anything they want on their website to entice buyers and then not live up to it. So far, with this company, their live chat wasn’t working and customer service hasn’t yet responded. Not a good start to a simple matter that they could easily resolve by providing a refund for a DOA defective unit—but have for whatever reason decided to not yet do the right thing. I’ve had bad experiences with online retailers and have built up a repertoire of tactics to help the stubborn retailer to do the right thing. One of those tactics is to get the execs engaged when the underlings are unwilling or unable to make good, customer-focused decisions. In this company's case, I hope I can avoid having to get Chris, Gail, and others involved.

Just grab your phone and call. I personally prefer email too, I dislike waiting on hold. But with Escort calling is definitely the best way to contact support.

It doesn't even have to be defective in order for Escort to refund your money, less shipping, in the first 30 days. They'll refund your money if you changed your mind for any reason.

Escort Radar customer service is available from 9am-5:30pm Eastern Time Mon-Fri at 1-800-543-1608.

BTW, I don't work for Escort. I'm just a customer that helps out in their forum for free.

Thanks ThomThom. I stand corrected.

It seems to be back in the product offerings again, but it has previously been absent from the iistings

@BetterRefundMyMoney: apologies for my reply. Escort did discontinue the 9500ix almost two years ago, there's no question about that. I know that Escort was continuing to produce it for some big stores like Costco, but I wasn't aware that Escort had begun to offer it directly.

One comment: I own several of Escort's detectors, including the 9500ix. In my experience, it drove me batty on highways with so many vehicles having driver-assist technologies like collision avoidance systems and predictive speed control. My 9500ix was consistently falsing. You might want to consider getting one of Escort's Detectors that include their IVT filtering technology. My Max II, in comparison, rarely falses.

All the best.
