Default New Redline EX, IVT filtering - underwhelmed

Been using Escort detectors since day 1. Actually still have my original 9 volt Passport from the mid 80s! Have owned dozens of Escort detectors over the years

Love the technical advances in the product over time.

With the BSM becoming more common, my 9500ix are very chatty. It is stunningly annoying, so much that my wife unplugs the detectors when she gets in our cars.

Figured I would try the Redline. Been getting great reviews. I especially wanted the IVT, to make the driving a lot quieter. Got it yesterday, this morning my commute was the first real test.

While it does seem to work, it is still not nearly as effective as I was hoping. Probably blocked about half the normal false BSM alerts. I kinda was expecting a whisper quiet commute today, however, still got over a dozen BSM alerts during my 20 mile commute, half highway, half city streets. It is far better than my 9500ix, but for a $600 detector, I kinda expected better .

Didn't hit any radar traps to test the actual real world use. Still was a bit underwhelmed with the IVT. Maybe my expectation was too high. Second guessing my choice of the Redline.

I enjoyed your take on your new purchase. You posted a thread in the Redline forum with a title referencing the Redline EX, so I assume it's for the newer Redline model. One question, have you updated the firmware yet? Once you're on 1.15 firmware, I think you'll find the BSM alerts improve except for Chrysler Minivans and Acura's SUV's...

Ah I didnt realize there was a forum for the EX.

I just assumed it would be on the latest firmware already. I thought I read somewhere that the last update was a year or 2 ago. But I will check anyway.

The IVT certainly works better than without it.

I moved this to the appropriate section

phantomracer,
Our MAX detectors, which use true digital signal processing, filter out false alerts better than RedLine EX while not impacting detection response. The "360" models also include directional arrows which are nice.

Unless you require stealth from radar detector detectors, I suggest a MAX 360 or MAX 360c over RedLine EX.

Would consider that. Don't know if it is worth my effort to do a return of the EX and spend another $50 on top of an already expensive detector.

I would likely get the 360c for the added features would be worth it.

Probably keep it and get the 360c when i retire one of my other 9500ix detectors. Can't afford to upgrade 5 detectors at the same time.
