Default New Style Controller use with 9500ci ?

I am having my 9500CI reinstalled in my new car, and want to flush mount the controller. In my prior install, we needed to add a separate/alternate momentary power switch since the power button on the 9500CI controller is located on the top and wouldn't be accessible once flush mounted.

2 Questions:
  1. will the IX or Max controller pad work with the 9500CI
  2. Is the controller available for purchase separatley?

I am not sure what you are referring to since the IX and the Max series detectors do not have a separate controller.

But if you are getting the 9500CI installed you are going to need a controller in order to mute, adjust volume, and change settings etc.

Please keep in mind that you are going to get a lot K band false alerts with this unit since it is a older system that doesn't have the IVT filtering like the new remote.

Ok I know what you mean now. The power button is on top of the controller and you want to installed this flush. hmmmm ok. This isn't something I know how to help. In this case you will need an alternate means for a power switch in which case I would think your installer will need to figure out for you. Or you can installed a separate kill switch to manually turn the unit on and off when you want.

The Escort Representative here will probably have some ideas for you once he logs in, so I'd hang tight until he gets here. What did you do with your other install? Why can't you do the same thing for your new car as you did when you had it installed before?

Thanks. I am very familiar with the product (have it in my 2 other cars). Since the new items only filter ~25% of the false BSM signals (Per Escort Product Sales), it would be a waste for me to "upgrade" when the 9500CI is an amazing product for radar.

My questions was specific to the controller pad. Obviously you need one. I Just want to know if the new pad is compatible with the 9500 because Escort wisely moved the power button to the front from the top.

Ok I am sorry I misunderstood your question and that is my fault. I see now you were referring to the Max-CI controller and the IX -C remote unit controllers . That is what threw me off for a second.

I don't think that the new controller will work with the old remote , BUT I can't say for sure that it wouldn't....

The old Beltronics STIR Original had power button on the front, but I am not sure that it would work either... We will wait and see what our rep. here has to say.

Here is what I would do. I would go ahead and install it flush and make sure it's powered on when you do. Then install a kill switch on the power line to the unit so you can turn the unit on and off manually.

Also that is shocking to me that sales would indicate the it's only 25%. I think the new CI filters almost all false alerts out from my understanding.

Also what are you using for Laser Jammers? Are you using the older Shifter pro or Zr3? You would benefit from the newer shifters that will shift the newer guns. THis is exactly why I purchased my ZR5 to run along with my Windsheild Mount 360c unit. Performs very well !!!

I'm not sure where you got your 25% number, maybe you misunderstood what you read or it's old print. The Max 360ci and the newest IVT filtering update have made the Max line one of the top filtering detectors around. If I had to list a number I would say well over 90% sucess on filtering. Probably even higher in light to medium traffic.

Right that’s exactly my thinking on it as well. I’d be very curious what “sales” person said 25%. My 360c filters probably over 90% and the Ci is even better from what I hear. Very interesting. Hmmmmm

Appreciate the advise, but I have specific reasons why I asked the specific questions. First off, a kill switch does not provide the required functionality as the power button on the 9500CI controller. In order to perform certain software and database upgrades, you need that functionality. Second, I don't want to cut into my dash panel to flush mount the controller in the event I need to upgrade at a later time (i.e. system dies) only to have a hole that isn't the right size for the new controller. I literally have had and personally installed several of these systems dating back to the passport SRX system 15 years ago. I know all the ins and outs. I am just asking for some specific knowledge as to compatibility.

RE laser, all covered. Using a competitors product.

RE the 25%, straight from technical sales support at Escort, not an independent installer. Frankly, pick a number, it really doesn't matter if it isn't 99-100% effective.

It sounds like to me you really should upgrade to the new ci. The old ci won't be updated anymore and is old technology. I know it's going to be an investment but in my opinion it'll be worth it. I think whoever said it was only 25 percent effective was mistaken too. You will see a drastic reduction in false alerts from the new CI. But if you decide to keep the old unit I hope you get a good solution.

Good luck!
