Lightbulb Redline EX International: Feedback and Improvement Proposals

I didn't see a thread specifically devoted for user feedback and proposals for improving the Redline EX International, so here goes!

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST
  • Improvement proposals and bug reports only! If you are looking to solve a problem regarding your product, please use another thread for troubleshooting! Let's keep this one nice and concise, so that we can be as useful for Escort's product development as possible!
  • Redline EX International only! If you have proposals or reports regarding the U.S. model, please post them in another thread!
  • Product feedback only! If you have feedback about Escort as a company, please take it to another thread! This one is strictly about the Redline EX International as a product.
  • Comments and discussion regarding the presented proposals are OK! Just try to keep it constructive, relevant and on topic!

Thank you!

So here's a few to start off with (version 1.1, haven't had a chance to update yet):
  • Voice volume adjustment. The voice announcements are currently very quiet in comparison to other sounds. It would be very useful to be able to adjust the voice levels and other audio levels separately.
  • Alerts not registering in the Android app. Sometimes the detector goes off but no alert will show up in the app, even though the devices are connected on Bluetooth. This is especially problematic when running the detector in full dark mode due to the previous point of too low voice audio level, as it leaves one completely in the dark as to which band a signal was detected in.
  • Fade in audio. When the radar detector starts going off at full blast due to a BSM or an insta-on radar situation, it kind of gives you a fright. In that situation, despite all efforts, there is a very real chance of instinctively touching the brake pedal. Because some drivers would prefer to keep the knowledge of their detector to themselves, it would be useful to have the option to fade in the beeping sound over a time period of, say, 1 or 2 seconds. I do realize there is the option for the softer alarm tones, but I still very much prefer the tone of the "classic" beeps. Just not the jolt it tends to give me.
  • No band indicated. Sometimes the detector goes off and simply states "radar detected" but does not indicate any band even when running it in the mode where it usually does. I have a feeling this often happens near Toyotas but I cannot be sure.
  • Detected frequencies not visible in history. For learning to tell the real alert frequencies from bogus ones, it would be tremendously helpful to be able to review the detected frequencies afterwards. However, currently the Android app's history listing only shows the detected band but no frequencies.
  • Exporting alert data. For personal radar risk management in general, it would be a really cool feature to be able to download all the personal detection data from the app or the detector for further statistical review. For example, just being able to export the times of detection, frequencies, and GPS coordinates to one's computer would go a long way to produce a really cool statistics on where and when different band alerts and police frequencies are most likely to be encounted.
  • Hot zone indicator. Building on the previous point, something that Escort could do with all the detection data from all their detectors in use out there is to generate a map for the statistical "hotness" of one's current location. For example, this could be little symbol or colour on the screen of one's detector or phone app that comes on with an audio warning if the driver enters a zone where an exceptionally high number of alerts have been registered, say, over the past 3, 6 or 12 months. This way the company wouldn't have to give up access to its detection data but the users could still enjoy the statistical insight and the heightened awareness regarding the risk of an encounter.

I'll put in my 5 cents. What you need to think about the Escort team. 1) constantly monitor new cars (this is really done in any dealership with the equipment) and know the frequency of BSM. It's important to me now. My new Redline has a lot of false interference on KIA.,HYUNDAI, BMW, VW.
2) propose a companies Escort to connect to informing new beta-testers. I live in Kazakhstan and I am sure that none of the Escort companies will come here to test the work of their detectors. I'm ready to do it. Gratis. But I want feedback from the Escort. I want to have a response to my comments, and to correct this problem.I heard from my Russian friends that the new EX is bad at detecting new types of radars. You need to check the facts and to celebrate the work of the detector.
3) in my former detector - Max, was Russian language. Planning an Escort in future firmwares to do it with EX?
4) one of the important issues: the database of the Escort. There are a lot of places in my city where there are changes in speed limits. I pointed out these changes here on the forum. It was February. These changes were not seen in the March updates. I asked Escort a question: guys I want to help you, tell me what should I do? In the answer silence! I'm not asking for money for work! I'm ready to do it for free!

Default Bug report

Bug report

Device: Redline EX International (serial number beginning 96)
Firmware: v. 1.10
Report: Got an overspeed warning and simultaneously an overlapping K-band alert. Detector briefly let out a very loud beep, loud enough to hurt ears.

Improvement proposal
  • Custom alert notifications in the Escort mobile app: Quite often it is the case, that the police radar frequencies used in a specific country can easily be figured out or even looked right up on Google. However, when getting an alert while driving, attention needs to be paid at other things, so closely looking at the alert frequency is not always easy. Therefore, it would be very useful to be able to pre-program custom messages to appear in the alert notification for certain specific pre-set frequencies or frequency bands.
