Default Upgrade Now?

I am getting upset with the plethora of false (non-police) indications that I receive on the highway from my 9500ix. I like everything else about it, but these continual false intrusions are hard to bear.

Which radar detector could I upgrade to that will retain most or all 9500ix features while eliminating these false indications? Not looking for new features, just relief.

If you want good filtering you will need to go to an all digital detector.
Only the MAX line MAX, MAX II, MAX360 & 360c are all digital. I traded my 9500ix in on a 360c and I could not believe how much quieter it was.
Unfortunately the relief comes with a few more costly new features but the quietness plus arrows (if you choose a 360/360c) are a huge improvement over the 9500ix.
I also traded a MAX in on a second 360c because the 360c turned out to be even quieter than the MAX.

EDIT: If you buy any of these upgraded RD you need to be sure to load the latest IVT software from Escort's site. My original MAX was no quieter than my 9500ix before the software download. Unfortunately there is no equivalent software update for a non all digital detector. The new iX & iXc are not all digital, only the MAX line is.

The MAX II Platinum on sale now at Escort (with the Costco deal extended 3 year warranty) is the perfect detector for what you are asking for. After updating to firmware 1.1 (using Detector Tools Pro using the big green Update button on the main page) it is nearly BULLET PROOF on Collision Avoidance Systems that pollute K band. And range is excellent.

I ran my 9500 IX since it was first introduced, and know its capabilities well. The MAX II exceeds its range. I too got fed up with CAS noise, and purchased 3 new models to try them out. I wanted the automatic door sensor lockouts that only Escort (and Bell) had, but wanted the IVT (CAS) filtering to get rid of all the garbage. So I purchased the RedLine EX, MAX 360 (love all the information this one gives) and MAX II. Unfortunately, the RedLine EX doesn't have quite the IVT CAS filtering the MAX units have, but I wanted MRCD detection and it to be undetectable in states like VA. Both the MAX II and MAX 360 have incredible filtering and better range than my 9500 IX...which I still have. So I use the RedLine EX in my SUV for long trips, the MAX 360 in my work vehicle, and the MAX II in my wife's mini-van.

Maybe you could get a $80 trade-in deal on that??? It might be worth a try.

Phil

If you use a Costco Citi Card (whether you buy from Costco or Escort directly) it will increase the Escort warranty with the Citi benefits that come from the card.
My Citi card purchase (directly from Escort with the 3 year gold package) extended that 3 year Escort warranty by an additional 2 years (5 years total). Check your credit card issuer's benefit booklet for the additional warranty they provide you at their expense.

The Max II Platinum sounds like a winner. I already have a new Escort Live Direct wire Smartcord that works with my 9500ix. Will the Max II Platinum just accept the Escort Live wiring and perform at 100%?

MAX II has built-in bluetooth which will interfere with your SmartCord Live direct wire. You can use the direct wire with a MAX II as long as you unpair the SmartCord Live DW from your phone and do not pair it again. Instead, pair the MAX II using the Escort Live app (not the phone's bluetooth settings as you did with the Live DW).

Wow! OK. I understand unpairing the "SmartCord Live DW from your phone and do not pair it again." I guess I can find how to pair the MAX II via the Escort Live app from the manual. Hopefully, I can pull the trigger on acquiring the MAX II soon.

It is super easy with the newer bluetooth chip that is built into MAX II.

iPhone:
- Open Escort Live
- Go to Settings/Devices
- Select MAX II and confirm you want to Pair

Android:
- Open Escort Live
- Press the bluetooth button in upper right of screen
- Select MAX II from the menu

I understand that doing this will allow me to "use" my Escort Live DW with a Max II. Will I still get all the functionality of both the RD and the Smartcord?

Yes. I originally installed the EL DW for my 9500ix to add bluetooth, and when I got a Max II, I had to make my smartphone "forget" the bluetooth in my EL Smartcord. Everything worked except the "Mark" button on the EL Smartcord. However, pressing and holding the "Mute" button on the EL Smartcord marks the location.

Over time, I've added a Redline EX and a 360c, and the EL Smartcord works fine.
