It's a GPS based alert for an area that has known air patrol enforcement or known dots painted on the road for officers to use from an overpass.

Oh, right...like red light cams that are already in the database. Not necessarily active at the moment, but had been at one time and were flagged and entered in the db. Got it.

Air Patrol alerts are where there are marks on roads which police in aircraft use to time vehicles to get their speed. They do not use radar or laser as is popularly believed. If you pay attention to where these alerts happen you will see the markings on the road. They are everywhere on major highways in OH.

Escort Live also includes Air Patrol alerts

I have had an Escort Max360 and have had plenty of alerts but very few sightings. There is not much information on what bands officers use in Hawaii. From my experience, it looks like Ka, K, and laser are used. Iíve gotten two tickets while running my detector; once when hit with a laser and another when paced(both unavoidable.

I have seen the military police use Ka bands (you can see the antenna on their dash). Yesterday, while in traffic, I detected a pair of K bands behind me. I rolled up to an intersection packed with police. I assumed there may have been a couple of officers behind me coming to the scene.

This intersection with the police has no storefronts or residences. I drive through this intersection twice a day and never receive alerts, so when I do get an alert in this area, I take it seriously.

Iím still doing a ďsignals surveyĒ of sorts. I have everything turned on in settings; however Iím considering turning off the laser and pop settings. I just havenít done enough research to figure out which bands I need to use.

Yes you should turn POP off. You might consider laser shifters, Hawaii runs a fair amount of laser.

Most importantly be aware that it is illegal to operate a radar detector on military installations.

Make sure that you have the latest firmware installed by connecting your MAX 360 to Detector Tools and pressing the "update software" button. If it says you are up-to-date then your detector does not need to be updated.

Definitely turn off POP detection (the factory default setting). Leave the detector in default settings and it will deliver the best filtering available with excellent detection performance. Give it time to learn and store the common X and K band false alerts.

Laser is heavily used in HI so be sure to use Escort Live to report and receive alerts.

Thank you for the advice! I will be sure to let the 360 do itís thing. I just updated it about 30 minutes ago.

Just because you pass a cop with sirens a blazing doesn't mean that cop has radar on. You r post certainly identifies you as a newbie detector user. I would suspect that if you drove around and found a "real" trap your detector will let you know. As someone else posted, you bought a radar detector, not a cop detector. I will let you know that if you set up your device just as your user guide shows then you will pick up radar somewhere sometime. The only reason your detector would not work is because someone dropped it.

I pass cops all day long. They're everywhere. My Max 360 only alarms when it detects radar. NOT COP CARS.

I appreciate the informative replies but lets please take it easy on those who are new to detectors. Everyone was a newbie once. Lets not insult and possibly run off new detector users.

Thanks!
