Default My Dad's CM Passport from 1987

This, I think, is a cool story to share.

In 1986, I bought an original Cincinnati Microwave Passport Radar Detector. I liked it so much that I bought one as a present for my Dad's 65th birthday on April 8th, 1987. Sadly, two weeks later, he died of a heart attack. He never used it.

Decades later, after my Mom passed away on 12/1/2016 at the age of 92, I received a box simply labeled "For Tom" in Mom's handwriting. All of my sibs received similarly-identified boxes, too.

I've been reluctant to open it since her passing, but I finally did so last weekend. Lots and lots of wonderful things were in my box, including things from my Dad, like notes and letters he had written decades ago that Mom wanted me to have. It was a little emotional for me, but these are treasures to me. To my surprise, among all of things in the box was the birthday gift I had given to him in 1987, the CM Passport. Brand-new in the box. Here are some photos of it.

In the last two photos, I'm wearing gloves because the casing was "tacky". Cincinnati Microwave put a rubberized coating on the case that hasn't faired well over the decades, but I'm alright with this because I'll never actually use it, anyway.

I hope than nobody objects to my trip down memory lane.

All the best!
Tom

Sorry for your losses. Lost my dad in '99 and my mom at the end of January this year.-

Ahhh yes! That was the first detector I bought back around '86 and then again in '87 when somebody broke into my truck and stole the first one that was clipped to my visor. I finally had to put it on the shelf because of an intermittent contact issue with the ground-side connector in the detector. I'm pretty sure I have my box(es) too!

Tried a couple other detectors over the years but decided to be a Law Abiding Citizen for the last decade or so until I got my 360. And then the roller coaster took off!
