Default Silver 8500 x50 Firmware Update Cost

Was wondering if you still do the firmware updates on Silver 8500 X50's? If so, I believe TSR is the only real improvement, is that correct? Would it make some difference in helping to reject some false alerts from BSM etc?

If so what's the cost to upgrade just the firmware?

I was going to give it to my dad to use, and if I could just upgrade the firmware and make some improvement in false alerts and this doesn't cost much that would be worth it. If it's expensive or won't make a difference i can just give it to him as is.

I donít think so. I believe you should look into upgrading your detector. Even with TSR this detector will drive you crazy with BSM false alerts !

I realize upgrading is the best option, and that is what I'm doing for myself. I'm upgrading to the Max360.

For my current 8500 x50 i was contemplating giving it to my dad as a gift. It still works great, just has annoying false alerts. I realize upgrading the firmware won't fully address this and there will still be many false alerts, but I figured if upgrading firmware only costs $40-$50 and will make some difference in reducing some (not all) of the false alerts then it might be worthwhile (assuming Escort still upgrades firmware on that old of a detector).

If upgrading the firmware costs $140 and only makes marginal improvement, then it's definitely not worth it and I'd just give it to him as-is as it's still better then the old other brand he's using.

There are no upgrades paid or otherwise for that detector which was great in its time before blind spot monitors. In order to get relief from them you need to upgrade to the all-digital MAX line as you are doing for yourself because software to help eliminate them is not feasible for those older analog detectors that pre-dated all the new BSMs.

I had to trade in my 8500 x50 and 9500ix for exactly this reason. Looks like he will have to get it as-is to replace his old other brand. Sorry . . .

I have the silver w/ red display 8500 x50 (on back of device it's the 1620X50-0), FCCID: QKLX5M4, Software revision 6.1. I believe there is a subsequent firmware version for this device that adds TSR.

Very simply my questions are as follows:

1. How much does it cost to just have the firmware upgraded on this device to the latest version (which i believe adds TSR)? Is this the Tier 1 service for $39.99?
2. Does Escort still do Tier 1 service to update the firmware on this device (no repairs, tuneups or more comprehensive service needed as the device works fine, ONLY the firmware update)?
3. What is the most up to date software version for my particular device?

Thanks!

See post #2 below that indicates 6.5 is a later version for your serial #.

I tried that, unfortunately the person I spoke to was "just helping out" and didn't really know much of anything. I asked the question whether Escort will still perform a firmware update on the older silver 8500 x50's because i thought i read on the forum that they won't be fixing this device anymore. I didn't know if that was technically only for repairs, and they'd still perform a simple firmware update, or if that was also no longer being offered.

I am not really sure. I would guess that the answer is probably no. This is a very old and outdated unit now and I wouldn't think they even keep parts around anymore to service that unit. This would also lead me to believe that they aren't going to have things around to update the firmware either. You can always try calling the number in my signature below, and keep asking until you get a straight answer. Good luck.
