Default Radar not detected from portable Radar Units...

Guys,

I am not sure if this has happened to any of you, but,

I own a Max 360, with the latest updates, and on several occasions the following has happened.

Driving down a residential road, up ahead there is one of these speed limit signs, that have the radar built into it and it tells you how fast you are driving. I am the only one on the road, it is telling me my speed, but my unit does not do anything, no beep, muted or learned signal, nothing.

another similar scenario:

Driving down the road, and there is one of these portable radar unit that is owned by the police department. Again, this unit is showing me my current speed, I am the only one on the road, but my Max 360 reports nothing...

this is concerning, because are there possible radar units that the police may be using, that are not being registered within the unit????

Now I would imagine, that if these units are owned by the police department, then the radar units will be in compliance with the acceptable K/Ka band ranges...

thanks...

Has it ever alerted to those signs? Your unit could be locked up. It typically will show bars or something that gives it away, but it can also lock up and not show any signs so you will have no idea, its scary. There are now reports online that show it happens to Ka as well as K band. Its a serious problem with this model. All you can do is power cycle your detector and drive by the speed signs again and see if your 360 alerts to it. If it does then you know your detector had been locked up previously. If it still doesn't alert, and you know it should have, then you could have antenna issues and should probably send it in to escort. But really you shouldn't test anything with speed signs especially solar powered ones because some days they work and some days they may not and some days they may be more powerful signal than others.

A few of the smaller "your speed is" signs that are temporarily attached to existing poles and which are not used for ticketing do not register on numerous detectors. These may be what you are seeing if your unit is not locking up per the prior post.

I also have a speed sign that I pass in a residential area and mine never detected to it. I think since they can't give tickets, might be way out of the range that detectors can see.

Your RD won’t alert because it doesn’t see the frequency. This type of sign is directional and will usually only show speed of oncoming cars.
If you want check the side of the radar antenna on the sign and see what the spec's say on the side of it. It might even say it's a FM-CW, and it runs around 2.45-GHz.
