Default Laser alert from my horn?

I don't know if anybody can help me with this. I was going thru an intersection and someone rolled thru a stop sign, I honked my horn to let him know I was there, when I did Escort Live reported a laser alert. I know there was no laser around. Worse yet I could find no way to cancel the alert and the report was about 5 blocks from my house so it is constantly telling me "laser alert" after I arrived home. I muted the alert and it worked for 5 - 10 minutes and then started again, muted the alert again after a few minutes it started telling me again so I just shut the app down. Questions are why would my horn report a laser alert and is there any way to cancel a false alert?

I've experienced situations in which I honked my horn, and I got a "Laser" alert. For additional background, I was using a 9500ix that was bridged into my Laser Shifter Pro. After re-routing the wiring under the hood, everything has been fine since.

You didn't mention whether or not you were using a detector, or if was hard-wired. I've never heard of someone running Escort Live as a stand-alone app on one's smart phone to get an alert by honking the horn.

What's your set-up?

I have a 9500ix, it is wired direct off the battery to a lighter socket fed with Anderson power pole connectors where I have my ham radio and CB connected.

Nice to meet another HAM operator. I'm W5TRB. I also have auxiliary power connections for CB, when I need to use one (and it's only when I'm responding for search-and-rescue). I run HAM all of the time, but I generally don't run with CB except when necessary.

I've also had issues with false laser alerts when I've keyed my mike on HAM, but I solved that by installing a ground strap from my antenna to the body of my car to establish a solid ground.

This is most probably a wiring issue, based on my past experience. You can try re-routing the wiring or place an RF choke on the wiring.

Regards!

Glad to meet you, I'm AB9VR, my wife is AB9VQ. My Ham radio has never set off a laser alert. My CB is only on if I'm on an extended drive on the interstate, never had a problem with it either. I'll try putting a choke on it and see if that helps, I might also check the grounding on my horn. I would have got a direct wire cord but I wanted the ability to switch cars with it easily. My wife has a radio in her car also but it is just plugged into the lighter socket because she doesn't drive much and uses 2 meters even less, she prefers HF.

Keep me informed, Lektrk. Feel free to PM me, if I can help.

73's, AB9VR. W5TRB, clear.

Strong EM fields, such as those from a car horn, can cause a laser detector to alert. We can resolve this by de-sensitizing your laser detector. If you would like this done then please call us at the number in my signature below. Personally I would just live with the laser alert when I honk my horn.

I've noticed my Max 2 laser alarm goes off sometimes when I go through one of the tunnels in our city. I just live with it. No big deal and I definitely would want it more sensitive for when it matters most. Interesting though about the EM fields. Didn't really know that.
