Default Memory battery?

I have a max 2, and every 3 to 6 weeks I loose all of my stored data. It is kinda pointless to lock anything out, when it will be unlocked again in a few weeks. Any ideas on what is wrong with it?

All such data is stored in non-volatile memory requiring no power for retention.

There is something wrong with your RD if it does this even one time. The only way to loose these lockouts & marks is for you to consciously delete them through Preferences. I'd call Escort Service.

EDIT: I have seen manual laser lockouts behave the way you describe, but none of the radar lockouts or user marks.

I did find a teardown video, and there are 2 batteries inside. If not for memory, what might be their purpose?

There are no batteries. What you are probably looking at are 2 capacitors. See below:

You are correct, no batteries inside. They actually use 5.5 volt supercapacitors, and mine only has one. I have some other stuff to order, so I will probably risk $5 on replacing it, unless someone has a better idea.

I just edited my post to include a photo of the capacitor which does look similar to a battery. You may want to wait for a response from ER before replacing a capacitor, as it may not affect the conditions you describe.

I can already tell you what the response from Escort Radar will be most likely. Do not attempt to open up this expensive piece of equipment. Send it in to experts that can fix this for you the right way. Don't do it. You may just end up with worse problems.

This is pretty much my assumption also. Unless you could talk to a tech, they aren't going to be much help I bet. It seems like they wanted over $100 to even look at a detector, and that is nearly the value of it.

In their defense, most people have no business opening one, let alone touching a soldering iron to anything.

Yes , that and it's just not a good idea to open up something like this and try tinkering with it. Send to the pros.

The supercap is not used to save locations. It is only used to store the GPS ephemeris data in order to reduce GPS acquisition times. Your saved locations, including locked out false alerts, are stored in memory which does not require power. If your locations are being cleared then the detectors needs to be serviced. To set this up, contact us at the number in my signature below.
