Default Random laser

Hey there. Just recently. My detector started going off on with laser notifications. Around town. There has been no police around. Then this morning same thing. When I came across to a big rig. I was wondering if anyone else has had this. Iíve never seen laser then all of a sudden 2 weeks ago a few times a day.

There are many potential sources of false laser alerts including, but not limited to, these examples:
  • LED headlights/taillights
  • Neon signs
  • LED displays/screens (try visiting a Sonic drive-in sometime)
  • In-vehicle LED dashboards
  • Driving in-and-out of shadows when the sun is low on the horizon.

Search the forum for "laser false alerts", and you'll find that this is actually pretty common.

Certain new smart phones now have some kind of laser based screen awake system that also sets off a detector.

Do you have the newest iPhone? Any of the X's will set off the laser with the face recognition.

Iíve had a major problem with this. My 360 has been sent in for the second time for warranty service. The first time they detected a defect in the circuit board. But I actually noticed no difference in performance or false lasers. This past week I sent it in again to install a Ďlaser moduleí which, in my understanding, decreases sensitivity of laser. This issue has nothing to do with the iPhone though it is a reliable way to make the laser alert to occur. I experience the problem up to 3 times per each drive to work at random places. It almost always happens adjacent to our tollway. I also own or have owned two other high end detectors and they do not behave this way. They tell me this problem is related to my carís technology. If that is true why do the laser falses occur next to the tollway and why are other detectors immune to the problem. Very dissatisfied.

I too had annoying false laser alerts and decided to install the ZW5 and disabled laser on my 360. Couldn't be happier. Now I know I'm protected from real threat's - since we all know a laser alert on the 360 will only assure you're about to get pulled over - and I no longer have any annoying false alerts.
If you live in an area where jammers are not illegal I highly recommend the upgrade.

Yes Iíve seen how those laser guns work and basically itís a targeting system through a viewfinder and a trigger which gives you zero advanced warning after the LEO decides to clock you. Still thereís the outside chance youíll get a scatter signal from another targeted car. Iíll see how this desensitized version works when I get I back in the next couple weeks and then decide whether I need to shut laser off or go to another detector. Iím pretty sure the tollway is triggering this and maybe Escort needs to look into what is going on with that.

There have been numerous people reporting this problem only after they got a new iphone and use it in the car. So in some cases it has everything to do with an iphone.

You are right. Actually having Laser turn on if you have no shifters is almost pointless. It's a ticket notifier and has potential for false alerts. You made a good move here sir. I did the same and would never look back.

Max 360

I get a false (no police involved) laser alert in the same spot on the I-15 freeway in San Diego near an express lane interchange. Very consistent.

I've also received consistent false laser alerts at certain Red Light camera intersections in Los Angeles.

For a while there, I was getting a laser alert pulling out of my own driveway, but that stopped, never could figure that one out.

Only once did it alert correctly and that was in Rancho Santa Fe there was cop with a laser gun it detected him quite a long distance away, long enough anyway. When I drove past him I felt like yelling, "Laser!" but I refrained.
