Default Which to buy, Max 2 vs Redline

I'm sorry to do this..there is no right answer.
Need to make a decision. Max 2 or Redline.
I've done a load of reading and YouTube. I've been to Radar Roys site, and ALL the forums. I sincerly apologize for this post I'm sure its redundant but these are questions I'd ask if I had a Redline owner and a Max 2 owner sitting next to me..Thanks for your patience in advance!
I'm aware of the M3 Redline having superior range and better off axis detection.
My questions:
1. is the M3 horn flawed? is it likely within the first 2 years it will need to be sent in to repair the horn? I am aware of the speaker issue..sounds like a DYI fix.
2. General internal build vs. the Max 2. Is it likely the unit will fail from poor solder points. Whereas the Max 2 is soldered better?
3 Updating. The Max 2 has a usb port..ok. Will the Redline update via a bluetooth connection via IOS or Android or will any and all firmware upgrades require the unit to be sent in?
4 Defender database and EL. The Max 2 has GPS and bluetooth. Will the Smartcord for the Redline bring it on par with the Max 2. Will the Redline have access to the red-light camera's or the Aerial database via EL or does it only offer a GPS to do manual lockouts.
5 If so, I 'm considering a mirror mount and mirror tap. This looks viable with the Max 2 and the iPhone running the app. How will the redline fair? It looks like to be on par with the Max 2 I will not be able to use the mirror tap, am I right? I will need the smart cord with the bluetooth connected to the phone?
6 Detection, is the Redline THAT much better to put up with the lack of services or the ability to upgrade at home?
7 Max 2 built quality, is it truly bad, I've read it has a very poor case design and is susceptible to cracking and breaking.
8 I like the idea of the M5 and DSP but I don't have enough experience to say it is better than the Redline, so if we put 100 radar "geeks" in a room, with nothing but Redlines and Max 2's, what percentage would pick what?
9 Lastly all things being equal, how important is the GPS in the Max 2? Is the Defender database that big of a deal?
Again I apologize for a post like this, but the Economic committee in my house forces me too ask questions...LOL...
Thanks you very much for your help!!

My questions:
Oh man this really depends on the user lol and its basically like asking should I get a Ford or Chevy...

I can't find anything that says the M3 horn is definitively flawed. It's like anything I guess, your gonna have a few bad ones out of the hundred thousands or millions they sell. If your worried about it get the extended warranty. I highly recommend it. It doesn't cost much at all.

My understanding is the Redline is a bit better built. I have heard the Max 2 had some units where the body started separating. I have a Max 2 and have no signs of that at all. Maybe it was in earlier models?

Looks like if you have the EL cable you can update your redline using the it instead of sending it in. http://escortradarforum.com/forums/s...15&postcount=1

Using the Escort Live cable it will alert you to red light cameras and more.

No you can't use mirror tap since the Redline doesn't have blue tooth. You can however get a mirror mount and get a smart cord live direct wire. You will however have to get it to match the smart phone you use. Either Android or iPhone.

I don't think you will be missing a lot of services if you get the Redline and the Escort Live smart cord or smart cord direct wire.

Like I said above I own a Max 2 and I see no sign of this happening. Either build quality has gotten better or I just got lucky. Again there is always the extended warranty if it happens down the road.

All testing that you can read online pretty much says the redline will detect farther and better off axis than the Max, Max 2. Escort says Max, Max 2 detects farther. Id go with testing Ive actually seen online. I mean maybe under ideal conditions the Max, Max 2 does detect farther but real world it doesn't seem like that.

I think the GPS in my Max 2 is nice. I love it. Haven't had any issues losing signal etc. Having not used the smart cord I'm not sure if the GPS is as strong since it sits lower than the detector.

No problem at all! we must have similar Economic committees lol All I can say is I love my Max 2 and don't have any complaints. The 1 thing I can say for sure the Max 2 has the Redline beat in is the screen. Max 2 uses a OLED screen and its very nice in my opinion. Again its only an opinion. I think either one you will be extremely pleased with.

Thanks,

Chris

I got a Redline a few months after they came out. The unit still functions great and has never been back to Escort. I also have a Escort Max1 and it definitely made a few trips back to Escort for various things. So I think the build quality is actually better on the Redline. But I personally have a low tolerance for constant falsing and live in a metro area. So I find myself using the Max or 9500ix the most. The Redline I reserve for trips out of town or if I am going to the mountains.

In my opinion, it is a pretty easy decision. If you mainly drive inside cities, I would definitely get the Max. I live in Vancouver, BC and most of the time I have 4 different locked out signals on my Max. I would buy Redline + EL if EL could automatically lock out false signals, but unfortunately you have to manually do that.

If you mostly drive outside of city / highway, I would definitely get the Redline.

In general, Max1/2 suck on lidar (not that it makes a difference anyway, BUT they do!!). Redline is the cream at the top of the jug, the best of the best for long range warning. The KING if you will!! (it also does quite well on lidar and can pick up the DETC which the Max does not).
