Default 9500ix Getting Confused Between K and KA

My 9500ix picks up multiple K band signals (falses) and then I get a strong KA alert followed by several KA beeps and then goes back to K band. This happens several times per day and is super annoying. What is the reason behind this? Does my unit need a tune up?

Yes i know its an old model and i own a 360 as well. The 9500 is in my wife's car and I programmed it only to alert to KA but I still get that crazy alert as we drive. The troopers strictly use KA in my area thats why i shut off K to avoid the annoying false readings.

Any info would be appreciated.

I've seen this happen on both the 9500ix and the MAX.

I could see it when using Expert Mode where I could observe the multiple signals build and then dissipate. It was from BSMs. The explanation I saw was that it was attributed to over driving the K signal with harmonic reflections causing "false" Ka indications. The 360c was immune from this feedback until the very last software update, now it's doing it too.

If it's happening all the time I'd send it for service. I'd say trade it for an RD immune from this but that's getting harder to find.

I run the 9500ix in expert mode and see exactly what you have described. The biggest offender is Acura. I would send it in for service if their was a guaranteed fix for this but unless more people chime in I will probably just deal with it.

Interesting. What's going on? I've encountered two similar scenarios with my new Max II with IVT filtering.

Poolmon, what I don't understand about the K-overdrive is that the 9500ix has not had an upgrade recently, yet this K - Ka transition happens. What would be overloading K in such an older software?

I don't know what causes this, only that my old 9500ix displayed this behavior and it never had an IVT update (or any update for that matter in years and years). My MAX also did this even prior to its IVT update, just like the 9500ix. Again this is not on majority of the encounters, but certainly on enough enough to be noticeable, especially in Expert Mode. In fact, I sent my MAX back in for service to check it out for this exact issue in March 2017 and nothing was found to be out of calibration.

My 360c never exhibited this behavior prior to the 1.8 update, but now I've seen it there too. Again, its not on a majority of BSMs, but enough to be noticeable. Seems to be going around lately and I have no idea short of some newly released BSM emitter that is more potent. This would not however explain the original phenomenon on the 9500ix that goes back years.

I'm sure Escort can better describe what might be going on.

It should not be alerting to Ka from a K source. It most probably needs serviced. To set this up, please contact our service department at the number in my signature below.

We are looking into reports of this happening after a recent MAX 360c firmware update. This does not pertain to 9500ix or MAX II users.
