Default Detector tools not seeing SmartCord Live macOS High Sierra

When I checked the main thread on this issue and saw the 'solution' I immediately retrieved my SmartCord Live from my vehicle, plugged it into a USB port on my iMac running macOS High Sierra and oops Detector tools Version 2.3.6 doesn't see the SmartCord Live so I cannot update.

Is this a problem with High Sierra/Detector Tools I wonder...

Detector tools also runs a bit weird on my iMac. Although it does see my Passport Max, however, on the bottom right corner of the dialog the version is shown. Quite often this says "version1.0". Checking the About menu item shows it is indeed 2.3.6. At other times the version number is shown as "version 2.3.6" in the corner.

I don't have a Windows PC, but I do have Parallels on my Mac. I executed it and opened Detector Tools in Windows in Parallel. The cord was immediately recognized and the update went quickly so I do have a working unit again.

This post is to report the problem with Detector Tools on an iMac running macOS High Sierra.

Believe me, I would have been less than enamored with Escort if their firmware fix couldn't be installed because I didn't have access to a Windows PC.

This is not limited to High Sierra. I'm using Sierra 10.12.6 and I experienced pretty much the same as you did. I do not have access to a Windows based computer either and had to pay for and download Parallels in order to get this update. I had a Windows license from setting up a VM using Virtual Box, but that was far too clunky for my liking, despite the fact that it was free. I also didn't want to use Boot Camp.

I recognize this just came out and by the time I reported my issue nobody from Escort was around to respond. Others offered suggestions for things to try with the MacOS DT but it would not update. I got tired of waiting and made a choice to purchase Parallels--that's on me, but it's frustrating none the less. I know Mac is rarely high priority with software, Windows always gets the nod first and weighed into my decision to add Parallels.

Coupled with your findings crh24, I think it's safe to assume that at this point, it will not work with the MacOS DT. Don't get me wrong, I genuinely appreciate the work Escort has done to come up with a fix. I know it's not easy to do in general without a forum of frustrated consumers breathing down their necks with comments daily about this. As a consumer, this whole event has been extremely frustrating and will be something I take into consideration when making future purchases of RD's.

The Mac version of Detector Tools cannot install this software update. You will need to use a Windows version of Detector Tools to install this update.

Exclamation Detector Tools udate not working on Smartcord Live for Iphone

I downloaded detector tools. Tried to run update and got prompt that firmware is
latest version. Went back to car still have the same problem. Running ios 11 on 6s. Still need to forget device and repair, to connect. Can we get a real solution.
Please specify which version of tools to use for smartcord, webpage is not very clear. Tried the pro version that claims to fix all, but it will not detect my smartcord. Alot of time and frustration. Can someone at escort test this stuff before sending out a patch. Also a little more guidance on best practices would be appreciated on the same web page. All done on Win 10 PC.

Default iOS 11

Took me until today to get a few free minutes to update my Max 360. Brought it in when I got home from work today. Plugged it into my pic and ran the updates. 10 minutes later I went to the garage and put the unit back in.....fired right up and connected to my IPhone no problem!! 👍🇺🇸🏎

Mine is failing as well. Same description as portside said. I've tried twice. Says I have current version, but I still tried to do the "update all" under advanced and it failed at the last part. It said update 5 out of 5 connecting and failed.

I have both a Max 2 and a Max 360, and I used BootCamp running Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro. I used the "Update All" in the Advanced menu and both detectors updated successfully and worked fine.

Asking you which Detector you are trying to update, because you mentioned using an EL SmartCord.

The DT Pro version is only intended to be used with the Max Ci, Max Ci 360, the RedLine EX and the Passport S75. It should not be used with any previous models.

I downloaded Detector Tools on a Windows 10 laptop. I have a Max 2. I did the advanced thing too even though it said I had the current firmware. Failed at update 5, just said “connecting”.

  • Are you using Detector Tools, not Detector Tools Pro?
  • Does the serial number of your detector start with "79"?
  • Did you select "Update Anyway" when you were prompted that the current version was installed?
  • Are you remember to NOT use the power cord when updating? Use ONLY a USB data cable.
Sorry for the questions, but the devil is in the details.
