Default Max 360 Vs 8500 x50

I have had my 8500 x50 for almost 8 years now. It has started producing false alerts that won't stop unless radar is unplugged then plugged in again. I am thinking about investing in the new Max 360 but would like to know how the range compares to my 8500 x50. Thanks

The range is certainly better than that of an 8500 x50, no question.

Additionally, it will be able to auto-learn false threats and not alert the driver to them.

I have not seen any direct test results, but suffice it to say the newer detectors will all give you plenty of range.

The best thing I ever did was replace my 8500 x50 with a 9500ix. It's light years ahead of the 8500 x50. If you get either it or a MAX I think you will be very pleased.

Agreed, as I replaced my 8500 with a Max and my Max with a 360. You are getting a lot of falsing due to BSM (lane Assist ) in cars that the 8500 was never designed to handle as they did not exist back then.

I traded a 8500x50 for a Max. Mixed feelings on it.

Pros for the MAX:
less false alerts
ability to save false alerts and POI's
ability to connect to escort live (however I rarely use it).

Pros for the 8500
I felt I had a half a chance of laser warnings, as it would go off and I could see the LEO aimed at other vehicles. When the MAX laser goes off, it's over, or I never see the LEO. The laser warning in the MAX seems worthless
The Ka range on the 8500 was much superior to the Max.
The 8500 was solid and felt like a well put together unit.
The 8500 never rattled like the MAX does

The MAX2 came out a few months after I purchased my MAX, and Live cord. Virtually no trade in value towards the MAX2, and using the live cord is problematic for me.

The trade in value for the MAX towards a MAX2 just outside the return period was 20% which was insulting. I called when an Escort rep was on a car show telling customers he would take care of people that wanted to upgrade. The phone call was frustrating with the same low offer. Over a year later, and I'm just not able to feel good about another Escort, or renewing subscriptions or databases.

I was an Escort loyalist, but have been soured since the MAX. The rattling from the MAX, the perceived loss of value months after what seemed a large purchase, and quirkiness from database updates has lost me.

I love what I'm reading about the MAX360, but just can't give Escort that kind of money again.

My next RD will probably either to spend the money on the V, or buy a refurbed 8500.

Interesting as I found the 8500 x50 and 8500 I had detected no better on KA than the Max I had. Also with the prolific BSM on cars today the older style detectors are really useless almost. I probably would suggest that someone should buy a 360 and try it out for the trial period and make a decision on their own and where they drive to see if its worth it.

And to add to that, we can only hope that with the entire Max line as improvements on BSM filtering occur it can be owner updated. And I think this is in fact how it will probably work.
