Default Having problems with WiFi/Escort Live on your Max360c? Read this.

After struggling to get my Max360c to fully function over WiFi, I'd like to share what I learned along the way:

1) The posted speed limit section on the screen (the left-most area of the display) will have a white background if the detector has successfully connected to your WiFi hotspot. However, this does NOT mean it has successfully connected to all Escort Live services. If it is connected via Bluetooth, the background of the posted speed limit will be blue.

2) When connected via Bluetooth, the phone app is actually logging in to Escort Live, and passing the data through to the detector. In this scenario, the detector itself does not log in to Escort Live, so you may achieve success with Bluetooth but not WiFi.

3) When you configure the "WiFi Settings" in the escort live app, this not only configures the detector to connect to the wifi, but during the first time it connects to the WiFi the detector will provision itself with Escort Live. It is possible that the detector will be able to successfully connect to your WiFi (and display a white background), but NOT successfully provision itself with Escort Live. If this is the case, you may see "- -" as the posted speed limit on the display at all times.

4) Your Escort Live password may be too long or too complex for the radar detector to digest. I use a password generator for all of my passwords, and in this instance it burned me. The password I generated for Escort Live was too long for the detector to understand, but the app logged in just fine. I needed to choose a shorter password in order for the detector to be able to login to Escort Live itself. There is no indication, other than the "- -" posted speed limited, that the detector was unable to log in to Escort Live. In fact, my detector was even posting radar reports to escort live (on the map) via WiFi, but still not displaying the speed limit. It must have been able to log into some of the services for Escort Live, but not all. The shorter password fixed this. Once you change your password, you need to manually reconnect the detector to the wifi hotspot (even if it's already connected). As I stated earlier, this initial connection to the wifi is what provisions the detector with Escort Live, so you will need to reselect your hotspot and type the password in again.

After going through this with the help of the support staff, I am finally able to get my detector to display the posted speed limit when connected to WiFi.

hi, glad you got yours to work. i first bought a max360, then reading on this site, i saw that the maz360c would connect to the WiFi in my car, and i wouldn't need to have my phone app open all the time. i liked that idea, and bought a max360c, with the thought of selling my max360. well i got the 360c yesterday, and spent most of today trying to get it to work. i tried everything but the car WiFi would not find the 360c. i called tech support, and a very nice lady talked me into trying again, but told me to make sure my phone was connected to the WiFi first, than connect the phone to the 360c. back outside i went, by the way, i have a 2017 GMC acardia. well it took forever for the phone to connect, than the detector app wouldn't take my password to work. once connected, the WiFi, would not find the detector. than all of a sudden, it found it. but did it work through the phone, NO!. even just the app itself showed my speed and posted speed, but the detector only showed speed, but not the posted speed, i just had 2 dashes. so, being i still had the 360, and i also had a headache from fussing with the 360c, i called escort again, got a return order, and the 360c is going back tomorrow. it's another idea i had that went right down the dumper.

cuznjohn,
Did you use a very long password?

MAX 360c should work well in your GMC.

Well that shouldn't be a problem. Do you mind sending me a private message with your account's email address? You don't have to, but I'd like to research this further.

Default Same here - but still won't work in 2019 Chevrolet

Same exact issue. Worked fine with my 2017 Chevrolet's hotspot but won't work with my 2019 Chevrolet's hotspot. I'm using the same WiFi password but the '19 doesn't let you completely change the WiFi AP name. It has a fixed prefix for the WiFi hotspot name and a user-configurable postfix. Ex: The non-changeable portion is something like "Direct-xV" and then if I chose "Mine" as the network name, the whole hotspot AP name would be "Direct-xV-Mine".

Anyway, my phone connects fine but I have yet to get my 360c to connect to it and provision to Escort Live services (white background with "--". In fact, when I look at the list of connected devices through the car's UI, it lists my iPhone XS by name and another device of "*" which I presume to be the 360c.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon as my situation is exactly the same as the poster above who had a 360 and bought the 360c ONLY to do the hotspot connectivity. Since that doesn't work in my '19 Chevy, I'm back to using my 360c like it was a 360 (bluetooth connected to phone and Escort Live running on the phone).

Of course, it could be something in the new car's hotspot (bands, etc.) but other 802.11 b/g devices connect to it without difficulty. So far, it's only the 360c that won't connect.
