Thank you, Escort Radar.

Just a side note...I mainly use a MAX360 and love it. Great informer in Expert Mode. Very good filtering. This MAX II at firmware 1.0 was hot as a pistol! I know all the door openers in the strip malls on my long trip to work and back every day, and MAX II at 1.0 was proving to be a range winner. Ka alerts were also long and picking up way off the main roads, as well. Impressive! Today I drove the MAX II at 1.1 over my usual roads, and it lost that magic it had with 1.0. I would downgrade if only I could go back. The four Ka hits I got were very short range and had no ramp up. I feel like this 1.1 firmware was for an old non-bluetooth Passport MAX. Why else would it be looking for a SmartCord Live? I bet it "hooked" the wrong firmware when I updated.

Keep up the good work. I know once this is fixed it will be a hot detector again.

Phil

Has anyone with a "MAX II" (not Passport MAX 2), serial number starting with 97, done a successful update from firmware 1.0 to 1.1? Specifically, no loss of range, and no Bluetooth issues???

If so, what Detector Tools Pro version did you use, and what method did you use? Green icon "Update" option, or menu selection "Update All"?

I purchased another MAX II (this time a Platinum box with the new SmartCord), and tested it with Firmware 1.0. Very hot detection! I like that! Unfortunately, no IVT filtering. I do NOT like that.

The other MAX II lost the "very hot detection", and is not seeing the same locked out signals on X and K it used to see. My MAX 360 is the "gold standard" for IVT CAS BSM filtering but still had a hot (forward) detection range. This is what I was wanting out of this new MAX II. I'd put a MAX 360 in my wife's mini-van if it would fit over the rear view mirror. It doesn't.

So, has anyone had success with the MAX II (not Passport MAX 2)???

Phil

PHILBERT,
We will need to service your MAX II. It losing bluetooth after the update is not normal.

To set this up, send me your name, address, and email address to set it up.

Thank you

Escort Radar,

That original MAX II was returned for a refund. I did not want the headache, expense, or loss of having a working detector for my wife's vehicle. The retailer had a return policy, and that was my quickest option to try again.

I am happy to report the MAX II Platinum, purchased direct from Escort, upgraded to firmware version 1.1 from version 1.0 flawlessly using the GREEN UPDATE ICON on Detector Tools Pro. I ran it on firmware version 1.0 for about a week to evaluate the sensitivity and (lack of) IVT filtering. Taking careful note of areas I know very well with K and X band door sensors, and noting Ka range I'm also used to encountering, the "raw" sensitivity of the MAX II proved to be very good. After sufficient time to get a feel of the performance, I updated to version 1.1 using the green icon (not the menu option of "Update All"). Bluetooth continued to work after the update (whew! glad of that!), and after taking it through these areas I know...and having some solid Ka encounters, I can say that there was absolutely no loss of range. Range was still very impressive!

But, how well did the IVT filtering work on CAS / BSM K band pollution? Driving on Rt 4, Rt 208, Rt 17 and I-287 in northern NJ (surrounded by luxury vehicles), the MAX II was pretty darn quiet. Just as quiet as my favorite MAX 360. I am pleased it worked this time, and that the update added great IVT filtering without radar range loss. Just what I was hoping for.

This MAX II is the perfect detector for those less interested in details, and who just want it to work...without all the noise. Good price point for a good effective detector. Not really my full review, but just a quick report about what did work this time. Thank you!

Phil
