Default Max 360c First Impressions

I have had some time behind the wheel with the new 360c and my early impressions are favorable.

BSM Filtering

I am finding that the new 360c is showing the Escort has finally solidly improved their BSM filtering algorithms WITHOUT the need for TSR.

In a number of extra urban driving, I was being pummeled by multiple K-band CAS systems including an Audi (24.08x) and GM/Caddy/Acura (24.2xx) and the 360c handled it all with great finesse.

I initially used K2 segment on only with TSR OFF with great success. Adding K3 was just as quiet. I then tried all four segments on with TSR OFF and it did very well too, although it appeared when I encountered a genuine K band CW source (drone sign), then a 24.06x alert briefly poked through the filtering, but then quickly disappeared.

This kind of thing can happen with other detectors, too.

What my experiences have been leading my to believe, is that the M5/M6 platform from a hardware perspective is very solid and it really has been just a matter of software.

It seems that the software engineers have finally turned the corner on effective BSM filtering.

Ka-band sensitivity

Like the original 360, the 360c seems to do very very well with 33.8 Ka, but continues to do so WHILE being interfered with K CW and K FMCW systems at the same time. One encounter showed the 360c pulled the legit signal out of the noise. Very encouraging.

X-band sensitivity

Looks very good. 360c alerts to the same weak X-band that typically only the M3s (and a different brand's catch). So very encouraging there as well.

K-band sensitivity

Also very solid as compared to my original STI-R

Size/Weight

Far more reasonable. Similar width to the Redline EX, slightly shorter than it.

Magnetic Mount

Awesome. What else can I say.

Display

While the display is offset quite deeply, the silver face can work against it and in very bright daylight half of the display is sometimes impacted by the reflection of the silver front bezel. Display seems brighter and more readable with the Redline EX and its black chassis lowering reflections in similar lighting conditions.

Overall First Impression

Looking good, so far.

I only hope their progress on the software engineering trickles down to the rest of the detector line, which I trust it will...They figure it out for one, the rest can follow.

I have some videos of some encounters in the pipeline...

Just curious as to HOW you would know this?? Is there an alert on the Max360 C that says " K band false being suppressed, BUT valid Ka coming through??"

How does it do against 34.7 and 35.5? Have there been any bench or performance test on the road?? How does its range compare to the EX and/or the original Redline???

Should be very obvious...I run the Beltronics STi-R that doesn't have any advanced filtering such as TSR, K segmenting, nor IVT--all predates them--so I know what the "reference", and hence, the windshield mount radar detector is experiencing.

Interesting. Could this be the answer I am looking for? I have a 2014 Cadillac CTS VSport Premium with all of the in car tech. K Band constantly falses, so I have resorted to turning off K Band; which leaves me unprotected from the County authorities who run K Band.

I am currently running a 360 with the latest firmware. Will the 360c allow me to filter out falses from my car, and still leave me protected?

Don't know it would handle in-car, but I suspect well, because the sensors face backward.

Use KN2 only for 24.110-24.175, should catch most guns.

Once, a 24.167 briefly alerted when I passed one, I recall.

So, I turned on K band today, and the vehicle emits 24.072; arrows on Max 360 indicate detection at front of vehicle.

Turn on segment 2 only.

You can also try 3, you may see high alerts as well.

2 only should do the trick though. Hopefuly you won't see 24.167 are there abouts with 2 on.

Let us know how that works, please.

Thank you for your help, VG; I will report back with my findings.

K band Sensitivity

As a first impression of the 360c I noticed its K band sensitivity is dialed way back as compared to the current MAX/MAX2 firmware. I assume it's got the same revised 360 firmware that has yet to come out for the MAX/MAX2.

Whereas my original MAX in Auto Mode detects and locks out certain constant emitters, the 360c does not detect them in Auto Mode at all. I was sitting at a light in the presence of such an emitter switched the 360c to Highway and sure enough it then picked up the K signal that was not showing in Auto Mode on the 360c but does show in Auto on the MAX.

Buttons

I like the fact the Mute button is again moved forward on the 360c from its more rearward position on the MAX. The buttons are a bit stiff to the touch as you really have to press firmly to engage.

Design

Very nice style, like the iX, and about the size of the original MAX as opposed to the larger original 360.

Arrows

Very nice, and responsive. I ran across a couple of Ka based pole mounted speed cameras and got quick switching as I passed. Super helpful in traffic as now I know if the signal is in front or behind and I can better react accordingly. Kind of like when I was young and had a car without air conditioning. Its just fine until I got one with ac and saw what I missing. With respect to Ka (fairly low power) on those pole cameras, the MAX seems to pick them up a bit sooner than the 360c, but not by much.
