Default Live subscription price after 2012?

I tried to find it but no luck. What is the subscription fee for live after the free period for 2012? I want the direct wire version, but if the fee is the same as the fee for the Defender database, I could justify having a cigarate lighter cord in addition for when I take a car off the lot, but if its higher, I can't see having it for the rare use it would get.

We have not set the Escort Live subscription prices yet. Escort Live subscriptions will cost more than Defender-only subscriptions because with Escort Live you are getting Defender locations plus real-time information from other drivers using Escort Live.

Any idea if there will be an option to get a Defender only subscription that could be used with the Escort Live! app and cord?

That will not be an option.

Pricing after this "introductory period" will be a big factor in if I renew or not.

My personal opinion is they should keep it $79.99. Actually I think they should offer it for less as I think $79.99 is high.

I can get a yearly computer antivirus subscription for $60 or less.

Some online firms/companies offer unlimited back-up of computer files for around $60 a year.

Some online games that require even more maintenance/storage/bandwidth/upgrading etc are less then $80/per year. Some like Warcraft are a little less then double what Escort is asking for their "introductory rate".

It will be interesting to see Escorts pricing plans after people are already on board. If it is too much it is very possible that people will jump ship. The detectors will still work fine without an Escort live subscription. Although Escort Live and a radar detector is not a necessity like food or water (some would argue it is)
I hope Escort keeps their customers interests (and pocketbooks) in mind and not forget that we are in hard economic times. And please don't give me the argument "but the cost of a ticket/court fees/insurance premiums are way more then what we are asking". My radar detector has worked just fine without Escort Live in saving me money and from tickets/court fees/insurance premiums.

After all, I am using my smartphone and my data plan to relay and submit valuable information. I am marking if the spot is legitimate or not. Basically I am doing the work to help other users (and them me) and so that Escort has a better product to attract more customers and more revenue. So is every other Escort Live user. Don't some companies actually pay you (not you pay them) to advertise/provide information to/for their companies? =)

I think it is also important for Escort to keep in mind that there already sites/companies that offer this type of thing (speed traps/radar locations etc.) for free. Some even offer you incentives for providing new/relevant information. If Escort does price out customers it is possible for other radar detector companies to make radar products that are compatible with these free companies/sites. This may or may not affect Escort if that happened. Just a thought.

Time shall tell.

Currently Escort is selling the Defender database for $19.95 a year. Considering what txbear stated you would think Escort will realize how valuable each customer using Escort Live actually is. I personally think Escort does a great job on the customer support end. They always answer the phone and they use real Americans and not some "Peggy" in a far away place. A small group of users does limit the effectiveness of the program. However, if Escort where to establish a "hugh" group of users right out of the box, other RD companies could fall out of the picture all together. I'm hoping they would continue to sell the power cord as an optional upgrade and keep the Defender database at the $20.00 a year level. Like txbear says: "Time shall tell."

It had better not be too expensive. The $80 is too high. $40 is the most it is worth.

The only way Escort Live is worth anything at all is if people use it. Escort radar detectors are already expensive. We want as many people as possible using this service - otherwise it is useless.

I would say the $20 for the defender and another $10 or $15 for Live.

I would THINK that they would consider the fact that the more people who subscribe, the better the service would develop into being. By making the cost such a high price that people decide to not join, that could severely limit LIVE from actually developing into a viable social network that is functionally worth having. After all...none of these RD's and accessories are "cheap" so the more who are able to afford to participate, the better it will become for EVERYONE....

So far I see no huge value in the "live" alert thing. I would rather not have the chance somebody marked a false fake alert, when it is really a real alert, then I get a ticket. I only got the live so I could here the radar through my iPhone and it turns out that doesn't work with real " live" alerts. Meaning the detector is going off and I can hear it through the phone!! What good is it if i cant hear the thing on my bike? Im very very disapointed about it and cant recomend it to anyone, but I have yet to see the value if they charge for this? I need the detector to tell me through the phone wether or not a cop is ahead that isn't marked on live. Tell me he how to do that?

They could probably get me to pay 10 a year for that feature, but it looks like I have to find a workaround, but depending on sow one else having marked something is not a huge advantage when a low percentage of people have the detectors. Then I'm still really clueless to why they wouldn't alert you on the phone when the detector is actually going off! I'd that to make you buy the motorcycle accessory that still won't work for me when I have my phone using the headphone?

A simple firmware update would fix t, but I guess I'll keep yapping about it until someone else comes out with it, or escort does it.

Very upset about it.

Seems your confused on how EL works. Your RD that has a 3.5mm jack for audio besides the built in speaker, EL can also produce audio through your phones audio jack for live alerts. In all cases your phone will show alerts.

The only issue I see is if you can only get audio from one source, then it will be live alerts or RD alerts.
