Default Low Voltage Message When Updating with Detector Tools

I have successfully updated my Passport 9500ix Platinum via USB using the Escort Detector Tools twice. Now, when I plug the radar detector in to the same computer via the same USB port I get a "low voltage, powering down, please unplug" error message. I first tried to plug the usb cord into different USB ports. Then, I tried using a different computer. Finally, I bought another cord to see if it was a faulty cord, and tried the same things listed above. Sadly, I'm still getting the same error message with the new cord. I'm not sure if there is something else that I can try before returning the detector.

Some cables are data only and not intended tp power the detector. Double check the owners manual for the 9500ix to see if it should be powered on or off during an update. I don't remember. That said the 9500ix is an old discontinued detector, it has no IVT filtering for new vehicle safety systems. The false K band alerts will drive you nuts. You might consider upgrading to a newer model with IVT filtering.

I've gotten the low voltage message before but it has always been resolved by re-plugging in the USB cable and trying again.

Only if the 9500ix with the first digits of the serial number starting with "19"need 12v power when updating. Those are older units manufactured back around 2008 or 2009. If the serial number starts with any other digits, you update them by using just the USB cable.

If the issue persists call Escort Radar customer service. Escort Radar customer service is available from 9am-5:30pm Eastern Time Mon-Fri at 1-800-543-1608.

PASSPORT 9500ix Platinum Radar Detectors are still currently still available on Escort's website. K band is no longer used by LEOs in some locations, not many though. If K band wasn't used where I live I'd still be using my old 9500ix around town.
