Default RedLine review (BS/RDR settings)

Picked up a RedLine the other day for a test run. So far im impressed and I hope to post some videos at some point.
Over all its a really nice RD, well built and good basic features. The one thing i absolutely love that compensates for the limited buttons is the ability to adjust volume via the remote mute button, very good idea.

Positives:
-Great range similar to my 9500ci.
-"Multiple signal detected" is back!
-Well built, very heavy looks awesome.
-Ramp up seems better. Is fixed with the new BS & RDR update!
-Auto dim works up high.

Oddities/disappointments :
-Alert Lamp blinks when muted at a set rate as apposed to ramp up rate.
-Alert lamp is off when in dark mode. Logical but why have a separate setting for it? Would be nice to only see that blinking in dark mode if it followed a good ramp up
-No band seg and RDR. (please add this...)
-Voice alert is quieter than beep alert.
-Didn't come with the DS stickers like the X50 i also picked up.
-Auto dim goes full brightness at night with a car behind you.

UPDATE 4/1/13: New software update provided BS & RDR features as well as enhanced laser detection of a few newer laser guns. Detection range has dramatically increased and the ramp up is now fixed!

RDR- When RDR is activated (default is on) two or more consecutive sweeps of Ka band are required before setting off an alert. This allows the RedLine to confirm if the initial alert is real or a false alert and if it should be suppressed. With RDR off it will trigger an alert on the 1st detection, no filtering at all.

We know turning off RDR will increase the RedLines range by quite a bit. However you will get falsing, especially from other RD's, so this is where you will want to Segment Ka to eliminate sweeping specific parts of the Ka Bandwidth were false signals reside but no real radar exists, like below 33.7 (ka1). Segmenting other portions of Ka will also help increase range/response, though RDR is the main feature increasing range/response.

The most popular radar bands used are 34.7 Ka 35.5 Ka & 33.8 Ka, so those segments you will not want to leave off (turn on 2/5/8).

BS- Now there is some amount of risk when you segment Ka band. For example if you come across an old version of the Stalker ATR that is operated at 35.2 and you keep Ka7 off it may cause a missed alert. In this case you could turn on the Ka7 segment as well as the normal 2/5/8.
But the best way to utilize the segments is run your RedLine in Spec mode (default BS/RDR settings) for a while so you can see the frequency's used in your area and adjust accordingly. You can also use the Geographical Survey to get an idea whats used in your area as well: http://www.radardetectorforum.org/wi...aphical_Survey The key to segmentation is understanding what guns are used in your area (MPH 33.8 - Stalker 34.7 - Kustom/Decatur 35.5), and what risk are you willing to take (Possible out of tune gun) and segment accordingly. I may turn on Ka4 for the small chance a 34.7 gun is out of tune since I see 34.7 the most.

Guns used and frequencys used:

MPH Industries 33.8 GHz
Stalker Radar 34.7 GHz
Kustom Signals 35.5 GHz
Decatur Radar 35.5 GHz
McCoy's Law Line 35.5 GHz

Ka1- (33.392 - 33.704) ON or OFF (default is off)

Ka2- (33.704 - 33.896) ON or OFF (default is off) 33.8 Turn On*

Ka3- (33.886 - 34.198) ON or OFF (default is off)

Ka4- (34.184 - 34.592) ON or OFF (default is off)

Ka5- (34.592 - 34.808) ON or OFF (default is off) 34.7 Turn On*

Ka6- (34.806 - 35.166) ON or OFF (default is off)

Ka7- (35.143 - 35.383) ON or OFF (default is off)

Ka8- (35.378 - 35.618) ON or OFF (default is off) 35.5 Turn On*

Ka9- (35.595 - 35.835) ON or OFF (default is off)

Ka10- (35.830 - 35.998) ON or OFF (default is off)

* Segments used by police across the US.

RDR- ON or OFF (default is ON) Turn off for best performance and no false filtering. Coupled with the segmentation options above you will have superior range/reactivity and little to no falsing.

Once you have set these options they will remain set in your RedLine, even between power cyclings, until you change them or restore the unit's factory default settings.

As a side note: When using Escort Live with the RedLine you may have to cancel the firmware update if it asks, just to be safe.

Enjoy your RedLine!

You can also adjust BS & RDR on EL:

Same settings on EL as my RedLine

Congratulations on your Redline. As far as dark mode, it is just a fancy word for 'off'. I think both displays should have separate settings, so the main display could be off but the lower display could be on. When I get my Redline I plan to run it in dark mode and use the aux. (blue) remote display (providing I don't build the display into the rear view mirror). I agree that it should have band seg and RDR. Hopefully Escort is working on this now. I look forward to your testing of this unit. Sometimes testing is the most fun part

How can no band segmentation and RDR be an oddity and disappointment when you already knew the Redline did not have those things?

Voice alert being quieter than the normal alert is annoying.

What's your build date? My 5209 build had the DS stickers, but the 4109 did not.

Whats weird about the Redline is it's ramp-up is different on certain bands. On X band the ramp-up is really good. On K band it's OK, and on Ka they really exaggerate the alerts and it's horrible.

X Band Good Ramp-Up Video, I wish all bands ramped up this well.

I have to be honest, my RL is a beast against all radar. It is killing my STi-R which may indicate that the BEL needs to be tuned.

Ramp-up is poor but I have to admit the range is so long sometimes I get frustrated waiting for the LEO to appear.

Great RD.

Yeah........apparently those are features reserved for Canadian/Europian/Australian customers.

I found this ad by a Beltronics authorized reseller in Canada. They are actually promoting the better response times against QT and better range realized with Band Segmentation. They should update their add though as it's really the combination of Band Seg with RDR off that makes the STi-R Plus such a superb performer.

Beltronics STi-R Plus Remote Radar Detector
2010's best concealed radar detector - 100% Undetectable + GPS

Introducing the new 2010 Beltronics STi-R Plus - the best undetectable radar laser detector now includes GPS capabilities such as updateable camera database for red-light cameras and speed cameras, and True-Lock locking out false alerts. Worried about getting caught with a detector hanging on the windshield? Not anymore. You can now Hide it 100% from thieves and police officers.

BEL STi-R Plus - Features and Specification

100% Undetectable

100% Undetectable and invisible to the latest police Spectre Radar-Detector-Detector (RDD) used by OPP, RCMP, and Quebec Police. Conceal the remote radar and laser receiver for stealth install.

M3 Dual Antenna Design

M3 is the platform and radar receiver used in Bel STi Driver, STi-R, Escort RedLine, and Passport 9500ci. Dual-antenna design yields the best range and sensitivity for detecting police radar.

NEW! GPS Camera Database

STi-R Plus gives advanced warning to red-light cameras and speed cameras which are becoming more popular in Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton. It comes pre-loaded with the award-winning Defender Database for North America. Camera database is USB updateable.

NEW! GPS AlertLock with AutoLock

Tired of false K-band alerts in the city? You can now easily lock out these false alerts by tapping the mute button twice. AutoLock (equivalent to Escort's AutoLearn) can intelligently lock out false alerts automatically.

NEW! "Instant Kill" Panic Mode

Instant kill function that removes both radar and laser functionality of the system, turning it into a simply a GPS camera locator. The radar and laser functionality can be re-activated through the Detector Tools software. This new function is not available on the Passport 9500ci.

NEW! Event Logging

Police radar or laser encounters, or so-called "events" are recorded on STiR Plus' memory and can be accessed through the Detector Tools on the tab labeled "Police Tracking".

Ka-Band Segment Filtering

Improve sensitivity by disabling specific narrow-band Ka frequencies range that are not used by the police. Better response time against Instant-On or Quick-Trigger radar. This great feature is exclusive in STi-R Remote and the new STi-R Plus only.

Laser Detection

STi-R Plus has built-in laser sensors inside the remote radar receiver for front laser detection. We strongly recommend adding Laser Pro Park laser jammer for full protection.

BEL STi-R Plus Includes

Remote radar and laser receiver, external amplified speaker, control module, display module, GPS antenna, interface box.
Dealer info and pricing was removed so as not to conflict with the policies of the forum.

I also like the "Police Tracking" option under event logging!

Kudos to Canada for demanding the best and getting it.

I need more KA encounters but i believe your 100% correct. X & K seem perfect to me, KA not so sure.

Sure if you want to pay the additional shipping and duties.

According to the site that's only 30.00. Well worth it if it has those added features....
