As it should be - it does NOT have filtering! You have to buy a RD with filtering to complain about it.

the only reason behind that was : Uniden R3
I doubt it although the R3 was probably discussed.

I seriously doubt they'd have such a knee-jerk reaction cause discontinuing a product involves a lot of decisions. They have to figure out what (if anything) is going to replace it. They have to figure out what to do with the inventory of Redline components they no doubt have in stock. And if they are going to replace it with a newer unit, they have to figure out when they can release it and when marketing should start advertising it.

They might continue to do production runs to use up the inventory of Redline components they'd have. They may have made the decision to discontinue the Redline some time ago and because they're now almost out of components to make new Redline units, they now had to announce the discontinuation. So this decision could have been made a couple of months ago.

It's easy to say (and think) the R3 had something to do with it but I think it's just a matter of timing. I'm sure Escorts been planning this for a while.

The exciting part is waiting to see what they'll announce to replace the Redline and get the range king title back.

Default Long live the King

I can remember back in 2009 when Escort announced the RedLine it was a holy cow moment for me. I was just trying to get comfortable with my neat new 9500ix (coming off a V1) when Escort decides to release a real hard core detector! The same day I'm on the phone with customer service setting up an exchange of that 9500ix for this gotta have mean machine.

Eight years later, and with the unleash the beast BS/RDR firmware, this detector STILL makes mince meat out of the 34.7 Stalkers which is the weapon of choice by most agencies in upstate NY.

I live in the hills of the Catskills and the remarkable off-axis performance of the M3 inside has kept me ticket free........NEVER failing to impress even under the most difficult scenarios. And that is why it still hangs on my windshield, I've simply never had a single encounter where I wondered "why didn't I pick that radar up sooner". Quite the opposite.......it's always been "how did the RedLine snag that one from around 2 bends"!

Sad to see it go as it's been everything it's been advertised to be......and plus some. A tool I've gone to war with and won, a trusted friend.

Escort, this is a very hard act to follow and I hope it's successor is worthy of the legendary performance of King RedLine.

Long live the King. It is, and will continue to be, the benchmark against which all other detectors are measured for some time to come.

It should be interesting to see if they come up with a replacement.

The Redline is 'old' and has no filtering. As soon as Escort introduced their IVT the RL was 'unofficially' discontinued. The Max 360 does not have the full range of the RL, nor the Off-Axis ability, so I doubt that was meant as a replacement. They had to be working on a new model, the only question was when to release it. I think the R3 has everything to do with the RL being officially discontinued now as now they can officially release its replacement (I hope). They would be crazy not to release it now to steal sales away from the other one. $22,000 has already be spent by people on the R3, if Escort can release theirs before they might be able to steal some or all of that back.

I know for me since I am past my 30-days I doubt I would sell my 360 for the RL replacement. It is not a matter of want, it is a matter of funds. I'm concerned though as the 360 is $650, what could they price the RL replacement at where it would not be too expensive given the competition. I think they would need to restructure their entire line-up to be competitive these days, but I'm not so sure they are going to do that. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks!

It has no new filtering for the K band safety systems on new vehicles today. The V1 had to update and now the Redline will too, probably it will get a newer version of IVT filtering.

I'm still not giving up my RL yet. Unidens got a long way to go before I drop money on one of their detectors. I appreciate people posting youtube videos but until there's some long term test results for the R3 I'm not spending another $400 on a detector. Escort almost got me when the MAX came out but for the price and performance it wasn't worth it. That being said K-Band filtering for the RL replacement is a MUST. We'll see.

I have a Max 360 and it alerts as you pass the officer. My RL alerts miles before the officer. Discontinue the 360, keep the RL.. Further proof that Escort is on crack..

Well, I suppose it was inevitable. The Redline has had an exceptional run, but so many people have made suggestions how to improve on the Redline, that I imagine that Escort's engineers have something up their sleeve. Personally, I'd love to see a successor with GPS (which I've said in previous posts on the forum) and IVT, at a minimum. I highly doubt that whatever comes along would have arrows because it would require four horns (two forward, two rearward) which would certainly make such a design heavy and bulky (which I've also stated before). I would imagine that its design would take the features of the Max II, but have the stealth and range of the Redline.

I'd sure like to be a fly on the wall in Escort's labs right about now.

I will miss the RL for sure. At this time it is still viable and on my dash. Along with the STi Magnum in my second car, the two finest detectors (still) today for range and performance. Have never been let down by either one.

I hope Escort has something breathtaking coming out to replace it.

Long Live the King!
