Here's my story about a similar problem. My IQ's sound recently stopped working. The same situation, the earphone jack still worked, but that isn't really a solution to the problem. Mine is 5 years old, so definitely out of warranty. I called customer service, and they said they could fix it for a flat fee of $39.95, so I paid that by credit card over the phone, and mailed it to them. A couple weeks later, I had it back, all fixed! The paperwork said they replaced the speaker. Everything in memory was unchanged, thankfully. But there is one thing I wonder about. I wrote down the serial number before I returned it, and I noted that one of the digits was partly worn away. A "7" looked like a "/". Well, when it was returned, it has the same serial number, but now all the digits were perfectly clear, including that "7". It makes me wonder if they sent me a new one, with a reprinted serial number, and transferred the memory over. It's fine either way. I'm very happy with the repair.

Escort, did you switch it out and send a new one? Can you explain that "7"???

We probably just replaced the serial number label.

I think so. That has happened to me. When the number looks worn they print a new one. Which is good.
